Title: N64 to JAMMA Arcade HELP!
Post by: Reptilz on February 01, 2009, 07:08:54 pm
Im wanting to install a N64 system into a JAMMA Arcade, I know I can get the controllers hacked, but does anyone know of an adaptor to where I can hook up to a J-pac or straight to the arcade monitor?

I know of the SCART cable that puts out RGB and sync at 15 Hz, doesn't adapt to the arcade monitor though.

Any help is greatly appricated.

Thanks,

http://www.howtoconvert.co.uk/howcomp2rgb.htm (http://www.howtoconvert.co.uk/howcomp2rgb.htm)-you'll need something like this
then you will need some diodes- http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=sGAEpiMZZMutXGli8Ay4kITJGaMqQHH7RPAvgHR6CU0%3d (http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=sGAEpiMZZMutXGli8Ay4kITJGaMqQHH7RPAvgHR6CU0%3d)
so that you can have both connected at the same time and not have any problems.

Once you get this stuff Ill draw up a diagram to wire it up

You could probably mod one of these to do the job. http://www.arcademvs.com/VIDEO_ACCESSORIES.htm (http://www.arcademvs.com/VIDEO_ACCESSORIES.htm)

Wouldn't it be easier to emulate this system? N64 emulation is now capable on even P3 systems with few problems. Seeing as you are going to have to do a lot of hacking/soldering anyway, why not just keep the real thing intact and just go for the much easier PC interfacing route?

I haven't had good luck with emulating the N64, it works and plays yea, but not perfect.  And I want it to be the best possible.  The reason for hooking up a N64 is for Mortal Kombat Trilogy, which isn't a very good port, but the PSX version has loading times that take days.  I haven't played the Sega Saturn MKTrilogy but I was told its just about as long of loading times.  And I haven't been able to see anything about the PC version.

Maybe the Wii will be releasing the N64 MK Trilogy soon with enhanced graphics and sound from there Virtual Console...and if so, Id like to go that route.

Seems like a lot of work for one game you don't really think cuts the mustard.

Reconsider tying N64 emulation. I have it working perfectly at full speed as low as 1.6Ghz CPU with no extra graphics cards, just on-board video using Project64. Failing that try the PC version - it's easy enough to get hold of with a 'no cd' patch so would not suffer from load times and I've played it - it runs quite well.

theres always tapping RGB out of the N64:

heres an old blog post of my mod:
http://tsenzen.blogspot.com/2007/05/n64-rgb-mod.html (http://tsenzen.blogspot.com/2007/05/n64-rgb-mod.html)

gamesx and mmmonkey has great diagrams/info on explaing how it works:
http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/nintendo/ntsc_nintendo_64_rgb.htm (http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/nintendo/ntsc_nintendo_64_rgb.htm)

once youve accomplished RGB out, than all you have to do is wire an RGB2JAMMA adapter similar to how ive done here:

you might have to find the right version of the N64, some have issues with amplification, so you might need to make an amp for your video.

follow the instructions from the Saturn 2 Jamma project:
http://pc2jamma.mameworld.info/arc_sat2.html (http://pc2jamma.mameworld.info/arc_sat2.html)

all the same rules apply, cept your using an RGB modded N64 in place of it :). Hope this helps
