Title: Getting ready to buy an I Pac but a question first...
Post by: kruluk on January 31, 2009, 11:48:16 pm
The I Pac has "28 inputs" but I do not understand what specifically is meant by inputs. This leads to my question. If I was to buy the I Pac  would it have enough inputs for 2 8 way joysticks 6 buttons per person and then the player 1 and player 2 buttons and then the p1 coin button and p2 coin button and perhaps 1 or 2 more administrative buttons? Or should I buy something with more inputs on it?

I know I am a noob but I have to learn somehow! Any help is greatly appreciated as always.

Thank You.

According to your liking, you only have 26 Inputs.
IPAC have SHIFT functions too. YOu can use those for additional inputs for Admin.

For what you want, 2 Plyer with 6 Buttons eac, I think you have plenty INPUTS.
I think the IPAC2 now have 32 inputs anyway.

I do not understand what specifically is meant by inputs.

Think about it in terms of the number of keyboard keys you'll need on your control panel. 4 for each stick (up, down, left, right), and one for each button. Add them all up and that's how many inputs you need. But then you can have shifted controls for less used administrative features (you hold down the SHIFT button and then hit another button). Do some searching for many discussions on what you might want for dedicated (non-shifted) admin buttons (like Pause, and Quit) and add them in to your total to make sure you'll have enough inputs.
