Comcast's Top 10 remakes - coming soon to a theater near you.
http://www.comcast.net/slideshow/entertainment-remakes/10/
Why in the heck would anybody try to outdo the original Red Dawn? Footloose? Fame? I've seen the originals of all 10 of these - I won't blow a single penny on these remakes at this point.
-
For the most part I think remaking great movies is a really bad idea. But it sometimes turns out alright, especially with movies that benefit greatly from special effects. So Tron is at least interesting in that respect. Look at what whoeveritwas did with the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead! That was really good.
Most of those just make me raise my eyebrow, though. There's just no reason for most of them to have a remake. Have there been some significant advances in karate since the 80's? Seriously, what is the point in a remake of Karate Kid?
shrug
-
I think Evil Dead would be awesome because of Bruce Campbell.
HellRasier might be good.
But Tron!!!!!!
Maybe it won't be as good as the original, but I would pay $1 to see the remake of Tron.

I agree with most of the 'comments' beneath each photo/movie that is planned for a remake. You just can't recreate those moments or those plots or in some cases, the comedy by putting someone new in a role. There's no comedian today that could fill Rodney's shoes and Footloose with some crew from High School Musical...god, like we don't have enough of those crappy, sappy movies already?!? Red Dawn would have to be changed to Hot Sand and it would still lack the punch it had for those of us that grew up during that era - no kids today would 'get' the story anyway.
I'm with you guys - I think paying a DOLLAR would be too much! :censored:
-
I guess the upcoming remakes of Robocop and Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure aren't good enough to be on the list :P
-
You guys are not the target market for these movies. Teenagers who don't give a crap about movies made 10 years before they were born are.
-
wolverines!
-
i can't see why 'bonnie and clyde' couldn't be a good remake

You're absolutely right, but I don't think that's the point some of these people are really complaining about.
Some movies, like Karate Kid is a franchise in and of itself. The movie spawned three sequels, (short lived) TV series, toys, books, and a whole slew of products. I agree something like this film should be brought back. Besides, I hear the new one has Jackie Chan. That makes it worthwhile in my book. ;D
A Short Circuit reboot should work out nicely with the advances in technology at our disposal. Johny Five is what he is. As long as they don't turn him into some craptastic morphing machine ala Knight Rider, the film should come off nicely with the right actors and writers (though that's true of any film isn't it? ;) ).
But Tron? Face it, there must be at least half a dozen cartoons on the air right now where that is the exact premise. What are they going to do with the film? How the hell is Disney going to top the pinnacle of all trapped-in-a-computer-and-I-can't-get-out films, The Matrix? Tron is the beginning, The Matrix is the end. It would take the movement of God and someone who truly understands Tron to make a new Tron proper. If the Wachowski's couldn't top their own film, I don't know who can.
The Evil Dead has gained such a cult following, it's doubtful it's fanbase will ever wane. I'm surprised it isn't ranked up there with The Rocky Horror Picture Show. If they remake Evil Dead, they might as well go and do Rocky Horror Picture Show as well.
Looking at the Wikipedia entry, the new Hellraiser is being written by Marcus Dunstan which might work out well. We'll have to see.
Other films I've never cared much for, Footloose and Fame are two. It's pretty obvious those films are going to try and capitalize on High School Musical, Hanna Montana and those other crap films before those kids get too much older.
WTF is Red Dawn going to do? The Cold War is over. They're going to call it Yellow Storm and toss in a bunch of bomb toting al-Qaeda to update it? ???

Hmm... Jackie Chan teaches scrawny, bullied kid Karate. Yeah I already saw that - it was called The forbidden Kingdom.
-
I hope they rename the character and make him Chinese, at least.

I'd like to see it without the Back to the Future elements. ;D

With Sam Kinison gone, wonder who will fill the role as Professor Turguson in Back to School:

The production companies are part of a glut in culture and hence are trying to ---fudgesicle--- the dead.
-
Karate Kid ...
As I understand it, Jackie Chan is playing Mr Miyagi.
A directorial debut by Will Smith.
Jaden Smith s being lined up to play Daniel LaRusso.
Nice !!!

Reason number 2 it shouldn't be done.

Looks like the remake to Slapshot just signed a director: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117999461.html?categoryid=13&cs=1&nid=2564

At least Robocop is in Darren Aronofsky's hands....maybe.

Shouldn’t the complete failure of Slap Shot 3 be a hint to these clowns that it’s not worth doing a remake?
-
The good news is not every movie in production is a remake, some of them are about random objects. I know I can't wait to see Ouija Board (http://scifiwire.com/2009/02/closing-in-on-a-writer-for-ouija-movie-the-signs-are-auspicious.php) the movie.
-
Hey did you all see that preview for that new remake during the Superbowl. Apparently, someone took several cliched plotlines from the 80's (Hot Shot pilot, tough guy problem child, etc) and combined it into one ---smurfy--- movie. Yeah, it's called Star Trek. Seriously, that movie looks like a total rip-off piece of crap.

BA ZING!
There's no way I can accept some random kid as James T Kirk or Spock. No one but the originals can do it.

I heard on the local talk radio station here in st louis that there is one possibility that might be entertaining:
you can't hassle the hoff!(he was trying to make a joke and is always looking for ways to make fun of hasslehoff).
