Title: Player 2 buttons 5 and 6 (show up non-assigned)
Post by: moloch on January 31, 2009, 11:46:48 am
I helped a friend with a Mame cabinet and every 6 button game has Player 2 buttons 5 and 6 unassigned. I go to the menu and assign them in the general controls for all games or even if I assign them in just the specific game they are blank the next time it fires up.

I believe he is using an older version of Mame .81 or so and Mamewah as the frontend.

I am sure that there is something simple that I am missing. I could not find a main controls file to edit and store them.

It should be saving the mapping in the cfg folder.  Make sure the folder is not read-only, and has a default.cfg file created, and a cfg file for each game played at least once.

If not read-only, I think that 0.81 is after human readable cfg files were added; if so, open default.cfg in a text editor and see if it has lines for player 2 buttons 5 & 6 inside.

The single most frequent support email I get for I-PAC, J-PAC etc is "Player 2 buttons 5 and 6 dont work".

I REALLY wish the Mame devs would assign these keys by default.

You and me both.

By the way the mini-pac that is running in this - is freaking awesome.
