I use Win XP Pro and Mala. I've searched through all the threads and did everything that I could find to hide the mouse. I've modified the registry as other threads suggest and it helped to shorten the amount of time that the mouse is visible, but it still briefly flashes for almost 1/10 of a second before Mala loads.
I will not use instant sheller, it gave me too many problems. I've managed to hide ALL loading screens/sounds, but the ONLY thing I have left is this quick mouse flash.
Suggestions?

The cursor I am seeing is a regular mouse pointer, it's the STARTUP mouse icon, the one that no matter what mouse pointer you select, windows will still use this on the "Welcome" screen, until windows is loaded, then it changes to whatever cursor you have selected. It use to show for several seconds, but after modifying the registry and other setting, it just flashes now, but it's still annoying.
My welcome screen is blacked out and I have made a custom black cursor, but as I said, Windows still uses that default cursor. It only appears for a fraction of a second, but my brother noticed it the first time he saw my cabinet, so I would like to get rid of it.

No matter what you do, I think it's going to flash for a split second. I wouldn't worry about it, like you said it's only a tenth of a second, so what if your brother sees it.

It just bothered me to have it there. I figured nobody would see it, but since someone did I'm just trying to make it look that much more authentic.

You could always use a solid state timer to delay your monitor coming on until Windows has booted.

Then I couldn't see the cool MAME loading screen, but thanks for the idea.

This has been reported to me as well with instant sheller. Id be interested to know if there is a software based fix for it as instant sheller does everything else now.
Cheers.

I have the solution for the cursor problem. Please read this:

It's inside user32.dll, so you'll have to modify inserting a black or transparent cursor and replace that file. It's easy and works.

Yep what he said.
Just makes sure Windows File protection is off or
the file you hack with your modified cursors will be replaced
by WFP.
Another solution..
don't use any mouse based devices; unplug them
and problem goes away. ;)

Another easy way to ensure that the user32.dll file gets replaced properly is to use a boot disk. Boot to dos, copy your file, & viola, you're all set.
I just completed this process today. No more pointers! Now it's on to a better bootskin screen. I just stumbled across a huge gallery (over 4000) of screens, so now I'm browsing......
