Use InstantSheller (http://www.gameex.net/Community/InstantSheller/tabid/73/Default.aspx). You can hide all of that startup garbage.

It looks pretty nice! I like the video preview for the games, how hard was that to implement?

Would you mind sharing your mala layout?

The video's were not hard to get working. Just downloaded the video pack which took forever to download but it was worth it. I cant remember the site but im sure somebody on here will give u the link. Also i have no problems sharing the layout, but it isnt mine i got it off a user on this board so it is on here somewhere. If i can find the link ill post it up.

I'm confused. Why do you need MaLa and Emu Loader both?

is it both or just the video?

Is this a pretty typical load time for the newer front ends with extra's like videos? I think it was like 1:20 to the point where you could choose a game.

I'm running a stripped down version of XP and MaLa. My cab is to the menu in about 35 seconds and I'd like it quicker.
Thats a nice setup, but I think all the splash screens and stuff would make me nuts.

I tried that instant sheller out and it does get rid of the screen i was wanting to get rid of. But it also annoys me, because i do sometimes like to tab out of mala and use the desktop and it just makes the desktop not load at all.

After exiting mala, hit ctrl+alt+del, choose new task, then type "explorer.exe"

Set Mala to run explorer.exe upon exit, or when you exit Mala, just CRTL+ALT+DEL and run explorer.exe from there.

Of course you don't have to shell to mala. You could just use everything else InstantSheller offers and set mala to run on startup the normal way.

It won't load your desktop. It will take you to Windows Explorer. You can only get a desktop by shelling to explorer first thing.

Is there a thread with your cab components and specs?  If not, what monitor are you using?

Yeah it works, just on some characters when they fall they animation is messed up for a split second but other than that its fine. Very playable...

that is because mala is not shelled correctly.  there are two places in the registry where you can specify which application is the shell.    one under HKLM and one under HKCU.  (plus there is a key that tells your PC which one to use)  if you set it as shell under HKLM, when you try to manually run explorer, you just get windows explorere.  if you set it under HKCU, and then manually launch explorer, it will load the windows desktop like normal.

if you follow the instructions in the WIKI under Hiding Windows, it will show you what settings to change to make this work.

Looks nice all the way around.  :applaud:

You should compile your version of Mame as well to get rid of the nag screens.

Having a Mame cab without hi score support is like eating cake without icing.  :P

I'd just use savestate. If it goes away, then so be it. Kind of refreshing, actually, to see a default score board.
