Title: Place to get a Mame computer and keep my shirt?
Post by: rlehm on January 25, 2009, 07:19:16 pm
A friend has an old cab that we are converting to MAME. We are ready to work with the computer but don't have one. I was wondering if you guys could assist. We have a 500g hard drive already for the comp (Sata drive btw) loaded with all of our MAME needs :)

Looking for a comp that can run Mame without issues.

We would also like to use Maximus Arcade or Hyperspin without lag issues.

Ebay links also welcomed.

Thanks guys..

that's your killer right there
you will need a new style MOBO for that.

all my systems are much older and have no need for that kind of equipment

Keep you eyes on craigslist.   I'd be surprised if something did show up.

If you are seriously looking to run HyperSpin without lag issues I would highly suggest a dual core machine and 2gb of RAM.  Anything less than that and you will not be able to run Hyperspin with advanced transitions and higher bitrate intro videos.

How much is your shirt worth? I have recently been looking into building a mame pc and I have found that parts to build these days are quite great. But of course that all depends on how much if any money you got to spend and how much power you need. I am currently looking at about $60 for mini atx mobo, and $120 for Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 Wolfdale 2.8GHz, and $55 for 250GB hard drive, I already have memory and power supply. So for under $200 you could build a decent pc. I am sure this is more than I will need for most the games I will play but I want to use the pc for other things in between gaming. I have also decided to not use a case but build one to custom fit in my cabinet.

Deffo go Dual core, you wont regret it.
I'm in Ireland(we get ripped off with prices on everything) and It cost me less than €200 for a Core 2 Duo E7400, motherboard and 2gb ram. I already had an old powersupply and I mounted the motherboard in the cabinet on a sheet of wood :)
