Title: Screensaver Crashing
Post by: curtis-r on January 23, 2009, 09:14:27 pm
Though I've only been using Mala for a week (switched from MameWah), Mala is now always crashing when the screensaver tries to activate.  It was only doing it occasionally before.  There are videos on the screensaver.

It's a bit sensitive about certain videos , but we ae working on fixing it so at least it does not crash.

In the meantime, try and work out what video(s) it is crashing on by enabling the logs

I didn't realize I could enable a more detailed log.  Excellent.

Oddly enough, the log reports "Loading game list" as the last entry before the crash.  I'm going to fool with the list in question (or remove it temporarily) and see what happens.

BTW, thanks for the reply & all the hard work.

Was in a conference all weekend, so no time until now to continue my debugging.

I deleted, then created from scratch my All Games list for Mame.  Screensaver still crashes upon start.  The final log entry is
"Info: Loading game list: D:\MaLa\All Games.mlg"

I got the SS to work for a minute, then:

2009/01/25  18:31:45.87   Info: Screensaver: Displaying video file D:\snap\mame\dyger.avi
2009/01/25  18:31:46.23   Info: Screensaver: Mouse Polling Started
2009/01/25  18:34:34.76   Info: Screensaver: Mouse move detected
2009/01/25  18:34:34.76   Info: Screensaver: Screensaver stopping ****

Okay, I think I may have made some progress.  I realized my shortcut to launch MaLa had some Ultramon dual-monitor settings attached.  I removed that shortcut & now launch directly from the MaLa.exe.  I also ended Ultramon altogether.

At first, the ss worked just fine w/ the videos.  When I changed the ss settings to use GameList or Emu, it crashed again.  The log always lists an .avi file, but those files play just fine in Windows.

I unchecked the GameList/Emu ss setting & all seems okay so far.  Why I cannot use GameList for ss's is beyond me, but I can live without it.
