Hey all, I have an Ipac2, running on a windows 2K. I wired up the panel and it worked the first time through, after reboot, I cannot get the keyboard to work, keyboard flashes lights on boot but then is dead. When plugged in by itself it works fine. The funny part is when after boot, the mouse works, but the minute i touch/depress a button on the keyboard or the cnt panel, the mouse freezes too. I cant figure this out, I have searched here and ultimarcs board, no avail. Anyhelp would be great, I have checked all connections, grounds, etc, and they all seem fine. The ipac lights up at boot and stays solid as well, anyhow, thanks in advance. :banghead:

sorry, not sure why this posted 3 times....

sounds like a driver problem...try to uninstall the HID keyboard (all) then reinstall..I'm not sure if the windows 2000 needs spesial driver. Did it have a installation with it ? If so be sure you use the right driver..

or maybe you should change to tiny xp...

Two questions which are a first step to troubleshooting:
Are you running in USB or PS/2 mode and what happens on the self-test LED at power up?

This is ps/2. The light is solid upon start-up. This is the same on 3 diff pcs, albeit diff o/s. I am on w2K. It remains solid the entire time. Mouse works , but as soon as I depress any key or button from CP, neithr work. If I unplug the IPAC and run just the keyboard, it works fine, both mouse and keyboard.
Thanks Andy for the response. I appreciate it...

I'm doing this from memory. What about the config file in mame itself. iirc it can become corrupt and the buttons don't work. I would replace it and all would be fine. I can't remember the file name off hand.

The LED lighing solid with no flash at power-up indicates a shorted input, possibly Player 1 sw 6. If there is anything connected to this input can you try disconnecting it.

Thanks Andy and M60, I did re-install mame32 and the ultimarc software, no change.

I still believe the problem is windows 2000 itself...

You could be right because the OP has now confirmed the LED is flashing and giving a correct indication after all. So we are continuing the diagnostics by email.

I am going to try to re-install w2k, or does this IPAC2 have issues with WIN2K?
-
I re-installed win 2K and service packs, no change same issues. I took the cp to my win XP machine, it did not recognize it either, no keyboard function, and after depressing any button, the mouse slowed considerably like it was defragging the drive. The test occured okay, which tells me no shorts. The IPAC could and should interface with your computer perfectly through the passthrough with no wires attached even, thus, this tells me that the problem might logically be in the ps/2 passthrough socket...well, at least this noobs interpretations...... :timebomb:

I initially hooked up my ipac2 to the ps2 port just because the old ps2 cable was all ready routed to my CP. When I tried uploading new key assignments to it, the unit timed out.. even after rebooting. I then hooked it up via the USB cable that came with it, windows installed some driver.. and it worked perfectly. I have never had anything Ipac related installed on my machine prior. Mine's working fine, just reporting what sounds semi similar.

get a new one with usb :dunno ...refund !

Are you using a USB-to-PS2 adapter between the keyboard and I-Pac? That caused problems for me.
-
disconnect everything from ipac except one button and work from there
-
no usb interface is being used, just ps/2. I tried the ipac with nothing attached on two different pcs with two separate keyboards and same issue which tells me that the passive passthrough must be either shorted or malfunctioning, then with a few different buttons, same problem.
Thanks tho for all the suggestions, this community is great,
ALSO, Andy with ULTIMARC thinks it is the IPAC, thus he is sending another one. I must tell you, ULTIMARC provides a valuable service. How often do you get that level of support anywhere. He gave me several scenerios to try and ultimately thinks its the board. Try that tech support with HP or Samsung, I will be doing business with them whenever I can, and I suggest those who read this to the same. Thanks all, I will let you know about the new board!!!
