Title: J-Pac or I-pac?
Post by: Man_Utd on January 19, 2009, 01:49:23 am
I picked up a NFL Blitz 99 cabinet.  I'm going to turn it into a Mame.  I've read that to use a J-Pac to convert an arcade cabinet to a Mame.  However if building a Mame from scratch, use a I-pac for your controller.  I plan on throwing out the joysticks and the buttons, and making my own control panel.  I still plan on using the arcade monitor, too.  So do I go with the J-pac or the I-pac?

I would use a JPac for players 1 and 2 and one of the other ?Pac options (IPac2 or MiniPac) for the rest of the controls.

The JPac saves the hassle of wiring the monitor and P1/P2 controls since they are already wired through the JAMMA connector.

If the joysticks are th 49-way sticks in decent condition, you might want to get a 49-way encoder (like the gp-wiz40) or two, and continue using them.  If they're 8-ways, OTOH, bleeh.

But it's up to you.
