Title: Will DOS only solve my problem
Post by: smiwin on January 16, 2009, 03:40:53 pm
I'm attempting to connect my laptop to an arcade monitor(made by LP Displays?) and am having all kinds of problems stemming from a lack of knowledge of DOS and Mame, arcadeos, advanceMame, etc. command line versions.

I'm attempting this through the command line prompt within WinXP. Before I wipe this laptop and install DOS only I would like to know if DOS will solve my problem.

Will mame or arcadeos or advanceMame work with the arcade monitor regardless of video card if I use DOS ONLY?

Thanks in advance for any help.

 ???
DOS has nothing to do with it.  The issue is the capability of the video output hardware on your laptop.  Look into 'Soft15khz' in the monitor forum for more information.  You can't just hookup an arcade monitor to a laptop running at a higher (unsupported) resolution unless it's a multisync monitor capable of resolutions like 640x480 or 800x600.  Worst case you could potentially damage the monitor.

yeah you need to look into the arcadevga card or soft15K as suggested before you ruin the monitor if it is not made to accept the signal the laptop is sending it.

ArcadeOS is a DOS only frontend.
