Hooked one up to an external USB caddie and managed to smoke it.
(I think the caddie had power supply issues)
Seems to have taken out the voltage regulator on the pcb.... it gets extremely hot.
Anyways, it's a:
Western Digital WD400 (WD Caviar)
Model WD400BB-00DEA0
LBA 78165360
40.0GB
Just need the pcb for parts, don't care if the drive itself works.
There may be other WD drives that would have what I need, so if you have a dead drive around..... please take a gander at the circuit board layout.

Try to look at ebay, I've found some boards there....

Yeah, I've poked around there a bit. Just seems like most of what I come across they want the same price for the pcb as a working drive and I'd rather not "part out" a working drive so to speak.
1. Get a dead drive, rob the part.
2. Buy just a pcb.... odds of it working directly are slim.....rob the part.
3. Buy a known working drive and still end up robbing the part I need.
Of course I'd rather just come across a dead drive as the part I need is most likely NOT the problem with it. So no harm robbing it off the pcb.

Let me see what I can find at work this week. We have boxes of trashed hard drives. I just have to see if I can find the exact model you are looking for. I'll let you know.

Well, that's just it.... even if it's not exact, just look for that "style" board with that kind of regulator transistor.
Appreciate ya looking.

I have 3 of them for you. Two are from 40GB drives and one is from a smaller drive but it has the chip you're looking for. The boards could be good. Might be worth trying them before you try replacing the chip on yours. Let me know what you want me to do with them.
