Title: dos games
Post by: _JMFR on January 09, 2009, 12:55:34 am
im fixing to start my first mame project in a few weeks...im really wanting to play some dos games such as duke nukem 3d and doom 2. now, those games require some use of number keys to change weapons and such. i was wonderin if theres an efficient way of playing them with arcade controls? has anyone done this??

You might want to try playing those games with arcade controls first. My experience has been that they aren't really that much fun on cabinet. They aren't really designed for sticks.

That said, you can usually remap buttons to do what you want (via your IPAC or whatever). Do some searching to get more information.

I tried playing Descent II on the cabinet once because I thought it'd be way cool... In the end, it's much better with a keyboard as designed. But maybe a flight-stick... :)

Those games use number keys for DIRECT selection of a weapon, but they also have "next and previous" keys to cycle through them. So all you need is 2 buttons for this.
