Title: Display issue with Rampage?
Post by: shiloh on January 08, 2009, 09:20:04 pm
Hello

Can anyone confirm that Rampage work fine with MAME .128?

I have a display issue with it and I troubleshooted it a lot, didnt find anything wrong. what is happening is the bottom of the game display is about in the middle of the monitor and is obviously cut off at the top.

The game does that no matter which resolution I use. This is using ddraw & switchres. I have checked the slider options in mame and the vertical offset is correct at zero. The test I did was with the official command line build of MAME .128 and I was using verbose output and specifying the resolution at the command line. I didnt take any chances and deleted the rampage.cfg file as well. I also tried with the .128 build of MAMEUI and I got the same result.

Tapper, which use the same resolution as rampage, work fine. I did a verifyrom with mame and the rampage rom passed the test.

I dont know what to look for now :)

anyone else seen that or has an idea

thanks a bunch!
cheers

EDIT:

If I remember correctly the game was working with my ArcadeVGA and my standard res monitor (although stretched). Over the holiday I switched to Soft15khz (radeon 9600 and catalyst v6.5) and a multisync monitor. It might be an issue with the catalyst version but I have some doubt as the resolution I am testing rampage with works just fine with other games.

I just found it.

A bad layout file in my artwork was the culprit.

I did not know that a LAY file could impact the game display when artworks are not used in mame (I have them for my front end only)  :banghead: shame on me

I have downloaded some new artwork back in november and never noticed the effect on rampage until today.
