Greetings!
The X-Arcade has one default layout and three programmable ones. The default layout includes two button combinations: press COIN1 and START1 to enter MAME's in-game settings, press COIN2 and START2 to exit the game.
I followed the instructions and was able to program in my modified layout on one of the empty slots. That worked fine. But does anyone know of a way to program button combinations into the X-Arcade? Or can I only get the pre-defined ones in the default slot?
Many thanks in advance!

If you're using just Mame you can alter the keystrokes in the tab menu. That may have prevented your first program, too. But the combos you mentioned are included in the ctrlr (and also perhaps in your ctr file if you cut and pasted it there) file in Mame. If you open it you will see them written somewhere. You can probably revise it right there by changing "player one" to whatever you want and "left paddle" to whatever you want. I would urge you to make a backup of the file, because I'm a bit unfamiliar with it and I wouldn't want you to be stuck on my advice. Please ask if you need more help. Also, do you have X-arcade version 1 or 2? If you just bought it, it;s likely 2.

Thanks, but actually it's the X-Arcade that I want to reprogram. I have a fully working cabinet with about 20 emulators running off a nifty frontend.
The X-Arcade is for my brother-in-law. I gave him the emulators preconfigured on a drive, and just want to "adjust" the X-Arcade so it will work with my emulators as I have set them up.
I'd rather reprogram the X-Arcade (one item) to fit my 20 customized emulators, rather than reprogram my 20 emulators to fit the default X-Arcade setup.
So, I'm just wondering: is there a way to assign a key to a button COMBINATION on the X-Arcade?

Makes sense. Yea, I think you can during the programming process hold down two keys for one input. It's been awhile since I read the manual, but they have something on that on their site. Or you could just try it and see. Hope it works out for you
