Title: U360 Question/ Help Please
Post by: Visitor Q on January 01, 2009, 04:05:41 pm
I have two U360s in my CP but P1 joystick is reg.  as P2 and P2 as P1. In other words when I go into Game Controllers in Windows both show up as Player 1 but when I go into Mame to program my input settings and press a direction, joystick one to the left is showing up as joystick 2. Any idea how I can correct this and swap them around without physically moving them in the control panel and why are they both showing up as player 1 in Game Controllers under windows? Why is one not player one and the other player 2?

Thanks.

You need to use the UltraMap program and change the IDs of each stick. Unplug the one you want as Player 2, and set the first controller to the first ID, then plug in the other and set it to ID 2.

You need to use the UltraMap program and change the IDs of each stick.

Thank You.

I will download that now, give it a try and report back.

You should really be using that program already! ;D

I changed the idea of it to 2 but now it is showing up on windows as 2 axis 8 button joystick and even though it works in the testing in the control panel, it is not showing the centering point in the Ultra Map program. So now what?

If I change it back to id #1 it names it correctly and shows up correctly, not sure what I am doing wrong?

When I make it #2 in the map program it see that its there but it does not allow me to see the centering point of it, only if I have it sat to ID #1. In windows however it does let me see the centering point under either ID but does not name it correctly.

Here is one better, I change the ID to 3 and it shows up fine but for whatever reason it does not like 2... What the hell!? :dunno

There is a setting you need to change in the setup about which joysticks it looks for. By default, 1 and 3 are listed. (Dumb, I know)

I am almost 100% sure I know what you are talking about and maybe I have something sat wrong. When I take either one of my 360's and make them ID 2 the map program see's them, tells me it is there but there is no center point to the joystick in that program. Also in the game controller control panel for windows it tells me the joystick is a 2 axis 8 button joystick if I set it to ID 2, otherwise it says the correct name for player 1 or 3. You follow me? It's confussing on know but the bottom line is whenever I set the ID to 2 on either control windows no longer see's the U360 by name only calling it 2 axis 8 button joystick. If it's sat 1 or 3, it works like it should so I am not sure why it does not like ID 2.  :dunno

I dunno. The program looks for (and finds) sticks in numercial order on my system.

I just have no clue as to why if I set it to ID 2 it does not register in windows or the map program anymore as a U360. I guess I will have to contact Ultimarc but in the meantime I just have one set to ID 1 and the other to ID 3.  :dunno

In the UltraMap settings, do you have it set to look for joystick 1 and 2? By default, it's set to 1 and 3.

Yes I do but even so listen to what I am saying...

If I take either one of my two U360s and change the ID to #2, go to control panel in windows and look at my game controllers no longer will my U360 be called "Ultimarc Ultra Stick Player 1" it will be called "2 axis 8 button joysticks". If I change the ID to 3 it will now be called "Ultimarc Ultra Stick Player 3". In other words whenever I have either one of my U360s sat to ID #2 it does not show up correctly in the window's game controller panel and in return I do not get a centering point in the Ultra Map program that allows me to adjust the controller even though the program see's it is there.

See Attached Pix.

Notice the first picture... Centering point in map program for both stick 1 and 3, correct names in game controller panel.

Then in the second picture, you can see that the program see's stick #2 but there is no centering point and you can also see the incorrect name in windows.

The problem might be a Windows issue.

You could try setting to ID 2, then in Control panel, System, Device Manager, open the USB Controller entry and right click and Uninstall the composite devices there. Then unplug and reconnect.

This worked in the sense of I was able to do what you told me to do, however it did not correct the problem.

Keep in mind this as well, not only is it labeled incorrectly in windows but there is no centering point in the map program even though it see's that UltraStick #2 is ready to go.

Windows calibration errors etc will affect the display in the UltraMap program.

In Windows, game controller devices are very "sticky", and the process I mentioned above does not always work to completely remove the device so it can be correctly re-detected.

As a last resort it might be necessary ro delete several registry entries to get rid of it completely.

If you are still having the problem can you drop me an email and I will explain which enteries to delete.

Better late than never... Sorry about the wait.

--------------------------

Any entries which contain the following should be deleted:

Vid_d209&Pid_0502

There might be approx 20 entries.

The entries will have this in the name of the key, or sometimes in the value, all need to be deleted. Then reconnect it and it will be detected from scratch.

This fixed my issue, many thanks again to Andy!
