Someone might be able to make a really cool cocktail/fire button setup with these.
They'd look great on a classic cabinet as well. Aluminum will polish up like chrome so you could have some really flashy looking joysticks there. :D

Interesting... But how would you mount a button?
-
glue it in after you wire it?
-
Yeah I gues so, but the hard part would be finding a button that fits the hole AND doesn't stick out like a huge... button. In other words, it's gotta look like it's part of the stick - not just a button that was glued on top.
-
Hmm,
This is very interesting.
I think I have just the button to fit this.
thanks for the heads up Brax.

I haven't hacked any game pads, so I am not sure, but I wonder if you could use a button from a console or pc game pad? What do you think?
-
I think those are cocktail topfire joy shafts. I don't think I've ever seen a balltop topfire with a round button on top, though (have seen with square.. maybe the same kind).
-
Are you the person that bid on those things, Zeitgeist?
-
I ended up with the winning bid on em ($3.50 for the pair)
This is exactly what Ive been looking for, so I didnt jinx it by posting in here :-X Id had no luck finding them so was going to resort to the old style wico Command Control sticks, but was having a ---smurfette--- of a time finding a pair, or even singles that werent rusty. After getting one of the bat style, I havent had much time to hack it apart and use it. This is good though since Ive added 2600 support and some db9 ports I can use the stick as intended, and find another(the bat styles seem abundant on ebay, but not the ball)
Depending on the exact size of the holes, Ive got some barrel type switches that may fit, or do it the ol' Wico way, a long rod that goes thru to the bottom and makes contact with a leaf switch
-
Very cool. Be sure to post some pics of the finished results when you get them sorted. I think they'll look super sharp.
If you go with the shaft you could use polished aluminum or stainless. That could look really good with the shaft.
Geez, I wish I had some disposable income right now, I would have loved to get those. Good luck with them.

Do need both? I'd be interested in buying one from you.

Here's another auction, same guy, same item
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3230358235&category=13718
Open for like 4 days- hopefully Ill have it by then so I can give this guy a thumbs-up :)
I was diggin around on radioshack.com for buttons, and found a number of them that mount in a 1/4" hole, which according to calculations should be just about right
-
Yeah Alan, that was me.
I forgot to up the bid when I found out that I was going out of town at the last minute so Brad outbid me by about fifty cents.
Congrats Brad.
My fault.... :'(
Lets see some pics when you're done please.

If the lone joysticks start going up in price you might try searching for this:

-

You figured it out also.
-
Well, mabey my luck wasn't so bad after all.
