Title: happ 3" trackball mounting plate...are these universal?
Post by: severdhed on December 29, 2008, 02:23:32 pm
hey guys, i am getting ready to order the parts for my control panel, i have a Wico 3" trackball that i want to install...will it work with the happ 3" trackball mounting plate?  my friend used one with his happ 3" trackball and while i didnt' physically compare them, the holes all seem to be in the same place.

will this work?  if not, where do i get a mounting plate for my wico trackball?

I know the x-arcade trackball fits a 2 7/8" hole. I don't know their manufacturer.

Maybe someone here has the schematics for your exact parts.

It will work, with one (or four) modification.  The Wico TB's four mounting holes are a fraction too small for the mounting plate's "hidden nuts" to fit.  So just ream the four holes with next bigger drill bit an inch or so from the top of the TB case.  That's what I had to do with my 3" wico, at least.

The option that might work: get the clear zinc version, or strip the black paint from around the mounting plate "hidden nuts".  I first tried the stripping, but wasn't patient enough to do a perfect job on all four, so ended up drilling all four.  I'm not sure about the clear zinc working or not, but I know the black painted one is too big with the paint, and just barely fits with the paint stripped, at least for the first half inch of so.

The mounting hole locations and the ball hole are all "standardized".
