Title: help with mame on a dsl linux?

Ok I have DSL linux, and I cant figure out how to get a mame emulator working on the machine. First question is that is sdl mame and xmame the same? also I am a COMPLETE noob at linux, I will admit it. So can someone walk me through how to set up a mame emulator?
