Title: The Wrestler
Post by: koolmoecraig on December 26, 2008, 06:26:46 pm
Go see this movie.

Easily the best performance by an actor this year.(Rourke)

It's almost like you are watching a documentary.  I would honestly call it the best movie of the year.

I've been waiting to see this.  Too bad it doesn't seem to be playing within 25 miles of me any time soon.

Dare I say that it's worth the drive?

Had this on my radar for a while but. . .

"No showtimes were found for Wrestler, The in Dallas Metro Area."

I believe it's only playing in New York and Los Angeles areas, which is just dumb because it would of had virtually no competition if it had a wide release anytime in the past month.  I like going to the movies almost every week, but this had to of been one of the worst years for movies because I barely went at all, maybe once a month.  At least the Curious Case of Benjamin Button got a wide release this weekend, so I finally have something to go see.

It's nominated for a Golden Globe and I'm sure Oscars will follow.  At that point it will probably receive a wide release.

The Wikipedia entry states a nationwide release January 19th.

Not into Cambridge.  That's like a 90 minute 25 mile drive.

Saw this last night.  I'll toss in first that I'm a lifelong wrestling fan but not really a fan of the drama genre.

This was really good.  It's sort of out of nowhere, which the oscar voters like, and it has names we know the oscar voters like.  So I can see it potentially getting one if that matters to anyone.  I didn't think Mickey Rourke was as fantastic as everyone says - he was good and he happens to look the part of a near dead wrestler perfectly.  In fact if you stood him and Lex Luger side by side these days the only difference might be height.  Marissa Tomei was actually way better - and if she wasn't using a body double, holy crap

No, she has an amazing body.  She's got an amazing body for a 20-year-old and she's more than twice that.  See more of her (and a freaking great movie) in Before the Devil Knows You're Dead.
