Title: Odd size monitor - Now with more info and pictures.
Post by: joe average on December 26, 2008, 03:16:46 am
Okay I am looking to replace a monitor but it is a bit of a strange item and I can't seem to find a drop in replacement.

As best as I can tell, the monitor is cga 19 inch or 17 inch viewable depending on how you measure.
It is in a tiny Japanese cab.
One of those little neo geo cabs.

Does anyone know a place that I could come up with a replacement.

Thanks,

Joe

Happ sells a 19" CGA monitor made by Tovis in their "Vision Master" line.  I've seen one in person, and the picture is great.  Has good controls.  Haven't had to perform any "surgery" on it, so I can't comment on design, but of course it also hasn't broken :)

Their price is $183 for shelf mount or $193.85 for a universal (not bad at all, really, for a brand new monitor), or you may be able to get a better deal through one of the Happ distributor/representatives here on the forums.

Not sure if that's exactly what you require (that is likely a 19" viewable), so check dimensions.

On the tube you should see a label with a number.  Maybe something like "A48xxxxxxx"

What is that number?

I'll have to pull it and check out the info for that number I'll put that info up as soon as I am able too.  it is like they way they measure the japanese ones so for us it would be a 17 inch I think.

Gonna guess that it's a 19" by looking at that model number.
But check the sticker that is actually on the tube.

I think you should be able to decase a 17" PC monitor and mount it in the original's place.

You would have to buy a video upscaler or new chassis for the monitor though.
