Title: hmmz, my monitor choice
Post by: spectre on June 21, 2003, 02:41:02 pm
Hmmz... I'm not exactly sure what I should do now...

Right now I am using a 19 inch monitor with this pc...
I use it mainly for mp3's and the internet, the occasional photoshop and sometimes play quake 3 and battlefield 1942
I have a 15 inch i'm using in the arcade machine...
I don't think the 15 will go above 800X600 tho...not sure if it is fully working or if it has problems or what...
it had these black horizontal lines flashing through it, but now it's working fine...
should i put the 19 in my cab since that's my primary gaming device and use the 15 to play quake 3 and battlefield on in 800X600 ? since the 15 wouldn't effect my internet or my mp3s?
I dunno what to do...
what would you do?
OPINIONS PLEASE!
lol
thanks:)

I would buy a 25" arcade monitor and an ArcadeVGA card and keep the 19" monitor for my PC.

I say go with the 19" since that's arcade standard. It would look proportional. Besides, you don't need a 19" on your desktop for 2 games and you can work on a 15". I say throw the 19" in the machine.

I kinda figure that's what you wanna do anyways, and you're just asking us what we think of it.

I agree with the sentiment of using the larger screen in your cabinet...

but 19" arcade monitor isn't hte same viewable size as a 19" PC monitor (the pc monitor is smaller) *shrug*

I also like apollo's suggestion =P

19" arcade monitor is more like a 21" computer monitor. Arcade monitors are measured horizontal width (though lot's of times, it seems as if they include their mounting brackets in the measurement for framing purposes) and computer monitors/tvs are measured diagonally.

Actually. Arcade monitors use the same tubes as televisions, and I believe there are laws about TV tube advertised size, vs actual size (laws which don't apply to computer monitors), which is why a 19" TV or 19" arcade monitor is always bigger than a 19" computer monitor.

Also, every 19" arcade monitor I have ever seen had the exact same sized tube, regardless of mounting schemes.

As to which monitor to put in the cabinet? Eh, might as well use the 15", you are already going with an X-Arcade, so the thing isn't going to look right anyway.

Alright, i might be a newbie and i'm not even english but my choice for that would be the 19' monitor in the cab! :))

My perfect option would be any Sony 21' with Arcade Vga Gr. card!
Or Advance MAME configured properly! :)

[] enjoy!

OK I'm Dumb  :P

So is it safe to say that a 19" Computer Monitor is really like 18" viewable screen, but a 19" Arcade Monitor is True 19" viewable ?

Just shoot me if I just stated the obvious.

that's a true statement (give or take a half inch on the PC monitor)
