Title: avga res? is it auto
Post by: G1zm0 on December 18, 2008, 02:48:03 pm
hi got avga installed and the galaga ship shows the resolutions, do i need to change the res to play each game or does avga do it itself?

andy says the card works with any dvi monitor, will the res drop to play on monitor?

i tryed a domestic scart tv with mamescart, but kinna looks same ( all jaggy edges, and not defined) noticably the king of fighters.

As long as MAME is set to 'auto' select the resolution, it should pick for you.

It will attempt pick the lowest resolution available to windows that matches the game's resolution.
You will also need to use ddraw, enable "switchres", and disable "hwstretch".

Nope that is the right checkbox: 'switch resolution to fit'.  Make sure that's checked.

You can leave the resolution at auto, but occasionally MAME doesn't pick the correct one.  You can manually choose the resolution by FIRST picking a display device from the 'screen' dropdown.  Then the drop down of available resolutions will have more than just 'auto' in it.

IMO, the only one of those 3 worth bothering with an ArcadeVGA is the SCART TV (since you should get proper native resolutions that way).  The other two are high resolution displays and look better scaled to high res with MAME effects like aperture grill (again IMO).  TVs are also usually bigger than non-widescreen PC displays which max out around 19" or 20".

think i will decase tv tmoz and make a holder to mount it to and them add it to the cab.

will need to gut and move insides of custom built cab.

will tv play higher res games ok like model 2 games?

will any pc steering wheel work with the emus?  or does it have to be  a logitec

In my experience, everything up to 640x480 looks great on a CGA display.  If I'm not mistaken, model2 runs at medium resolution (384 lines), so you will either have to run those stretched at 640x480 or unstretched with a bit of black borders around the sides and top.  You may want to check out the monitor forum for more info on getting an SCART TV connected to your PC.

And yes, you can use any PC steering wheel.
