Title: Ultrastik 360 + PS3
Post by: Unkis17 on December 18, 2008, 12:04:55 pm
I haven't seen any posts on using the UltraStik 360 with the PS3.  Does anyone know if this will work?  MK vs. DC universe is ready to be played, but it just won't be the same without a true arcade stick.

Thanks,

Unkis

Just get a normal 8-way joystick, and hack a PS3 controller, and there you go.

just so you know you can set up the u360 as a dedicated 8way and run it with you ps3
that way, down the road if you want to use it for another project you have a very versatile stick
other wise buy a Sanwa JLW (http://www.lizardlickamusements.com/pages/joysticks.shtml) for $20 and your good to go

6th sick down on the link, its the same stick that the U360 is made from

So do you need anything special to interface it to a ps3?

A previous post said to hack a ps3 controller, I can see how that would work for buttons but how would that work for a u360?

It wouldn't.  Which is why I suggested a normal 8-way joystick.

And is that because a normal 8 way stick is essentially just buttons oriented in each of the 8 directions?

Actually It will, but you do need a hacked PS3 controller

I have a U360 set up as a dedicated 4 way on a donkey Kong cab with no PC and no USB

there is an output mode that allows for dedicated 4 way or 8 way mode
there is a breakout cable that is normally used as an input for buttons but can be used in output mode to connect to a hacked PS3 controller
you do need a PC to initially set the mode

read here (http://www.ultimarc.com/ultrastik_info.html) under features where it says output mode
also see here (http://www.ultimarc.com/ultrastik_inst.html) under output mode for technical info

get a hack from HarumaN he does fantastic work!!!!

and if you need any help hooking it up I'll walk you through it

Hmm... I stand corrected then.  BUt if you are going to just force that joystick into 8-way mode, wouldn't it just be better to use a different (and probably cheaper) joystick?

yes, unless you think you might be using it for something later or ,like me, like the no clicky feel of the U360

or if you want to also use the sick with mame you can hook up the USB too, and have one stick for you PC and the PS3, I do a similar thing with an over the lap CP I built, I can use with the PC, XBOX360, and the PS3

you just have to make sure that it is set to 8 way mode before you quit the PC

A Perfect360 would be a cheaper option if you want to run in eight way mode without the clicky feel of a microswitch based joystick.
