Title: where to buy a 29inch monitor for an astrocity cab
Post by: Denverlatino on December 17, 2008, 07:45:49 pm
I couldn't fix the damn monitor on my cab, and when i was trying something out i broke the neck,   :banghead: bad bad luck  :banghead:  now I'm looking to buy a monitor for it but i cant seem to find one cheaper then 450 dollars, so i was wondering if anyone knows a site where they sell them for less, since i got pending transaction here, i cant buy here until i fix my bussines. Any help is appreciated.

There are plenty of 29" TV's laying around.  They will be marketed at a 27" in the US though.

Check tv repair shops around where you live, they usually have a few available for sale.  Of course there is always ebay and craigslist.

Also, this guy put a D9800 in a blast city:

I think it looks fine with the foam he used to fill in the gaps in the bezel.

This is probably the best option if you go with a TV.

From what I can see, the one Yaton (Y-Plus) sells is the same thing (different PCB layout, same major components) and only costs like $25, which is well less than what jrok charges (or at least used to - I see no price on his website any more).  I think the ADI part (nobody seems to use it) does a better job than the Rohm part, but at $25 it's hard to argue.

so did you ever pay Goz?

I'm guessing since you are dropping coin on a new project you have settled past debts....

Seems to me if you took care of your "business", you might be able to find the monitor you were looking for. Karma is a ---smurfette---!

I've done exactly this and it is actually much harder than it seems.  Unless you get a tube of exactly the same size and shape as the original, you'll have to do some modifications to the hard black plastic bezel which is both a pain and very time consuming.  What I did was to fit a Philips 29" tube, only to find that minor shape differences meant that the top lid would not close down properly  :banghead:

A better bet might be to find an old 29" Toshiba TV, dead or alive, as I understand that Nanao sourced their tubes for the Astros from Toshiba. This way the tube is more likely to fit your Astro, and might even have the right yoke characteristics for your monitor chassis.  Look at the dump or revolve/recycling station, scout ebay etc, All you need is a good screen, the rest can be kaput.  There might even be other brand TVs that used Toshiba screens.

Even if the Toshiba tube won't work with your chassis, Joey at Jomac can probably fix you up with a new dual-res chassis at a reasonable price.

Dude... If you actually make good on this, it will be the first time since I've been here that someone actually followed through and forsaked their dooshness. You might actually be eligible for some fair treatment.

Good on ya'... but ONLY if you make good I suppose.

wait wat? so you are FINALLY going to pay up? Goz seriously let me know when you get paid on this past due account...

FYI for those who aren't in the know:

this should shed some light in the situation that hijacked this thread...

===========================================

basically until Goz get paid past due and whatever he feels is enough compensation, Denverlatino is not worth the trouble helping out.....

Karma lives on.....

I just read the old thread.  That was back in June (2008!), and the guy still hasn't paid Goz back! Asking for payment details at this late stage seems pretty lame as he must have them already, you would think, and not have to post a forum message about it as a poor excuse.

"If it looks like sh!t, sounds like sh!t, smells like sh!t, feels like sh!t, and tastes like sh!t, then you can be pretty damn sure that it is sh!t."

I have a hunch it will follow him until this is resolved ... it hasn't been 6 months, but rather 4 YEARS and 6 months ...

Each time it comes up, DL evades and then comes back later as if nothing has happened until someone points it out to him.
