How in the hell does one get past the hurdle stage of this game? I consider myself to be slightly above average at Track n Field yet I can not get any closer than a full second behind the qualifying run for the hurdles stage of Konami `88?!

I haven't played it in a while, but it certainly handles speed differently to its two predecessors. What times are you getting in TnF for 110?
-
Sub 12 seconds if I remember right...11:58 or so is my best.
-
From that I'd guess that your 100m best is around 8.8 - 9.2? You should be qf in Konami 88. What technique(?) do you use to run?

I think my best 100m is around 9.5 or so. I hit the run buttons with my index and ring finger and then press the jump button with my index finger of the other hand. Of course we're talking about a 6-button SF CP layout....

Dude, I just passed the hurdles using my work keyboard like 4 seconds below qualifying time.
You have to keep slapping run even when hitting jump. I noticed I slowed down in the air if I quit.

I dunno what to say...I keep running as usual....I can't pass it. I have absolutely no problem getting past the first 2 levels of Track & Field hurdles so it's not like I don't know WTF I am doing... perhaps I have a setting set wrong or something?

It helps if you once played the drums. Or still do like me.

Oh, this is 88 games. For all these I just use a ruler with a rubber piece under it, centered on the middle mouse button next to my trackball, holding it down with a bias onto the left button with my left hand, and see-sawing it onto the right with my right hand, and then have the P2 lower-left button for jump, etc, that I tap with my right pinky. Seems to work good.
