Title: Freakin' Cold
Post by: FrizzleFried on December 17, 2008, 09:34:03 am
This morning was 5 degrees with a windchill of -7.  Now,  that is the coldest it's been here in the "ho" since I've lived here.   I know for some of you polar bears 5 degrees is downright toasty...but for this ex-So. Cal fool 5 degrees is FREAKIN' COLD!

To flip that upside down...

...it was 64 degrees in MA yesterday.   :dunno

We're getting our first (and possibly only) snowfall of the season right now.  It's currently 7am and still snowing pretty good and I'm hoping to stays cold enough to keep the snow around for at least a day, although it's unlikely.

I would love to have a foot of snow for Christmas! I get the feeling we'll get a foot before this winter is over. We are due for sure.

It hit 32 during the night. I just had some pipes in the wall repaired and the damn dog ate the insulation.

I stuck the dog in the wall to prevent the pipes from freezing, but I'll have to hit up Lowes before the GF starts to complain.

I took me three hours to drive home yesterday and I even worked late to avoid traffic.

A four lane highway knocked down to two, never going faster than 10mph.

You should live in the North of England, as it gets bitter cold in the winter.

You can always get another house in Mexico and winter there.  ;D

Woohoo, it's still snowing here and I just got back from the last appointment I had set for this week, so I get to stay at home and watch the snow build up for the first time   :)

There was virtually no snow here last year and before that I lived where it pretty much never snowed, so even though its only at around 5 inches snow so far, it's far more snow then I've ever had and theres no signs of it stopping until tommorrow.  Of course the rarity of snow here meant that I got to see lots of accidents on the freeway this morning (all minor fender benders from what I could see) including one car spinning out in the lane next to me.  The fools don't seem to understand slamming on the breaks is a bad idea in this kind of weather.

Thats cold, but it does occasionally get colder. Every year we usually see a few overnights of -40, and day time highs of like -20. We've had less of that over the last decade of course (thanks to Al Gore and his damn climate change). :)

There has to be some members here from like Winnipeg, or parts even further North into Canada, or Alaska where the temps have got to be even colder.

It kinda warmed up here because of cloud cover, and it hasn't gotten to freezing yet, but those same clouds initially brought in some wet and we had snow on the mountains from it (though not below probably 5000 feet).

(The picture below is not a current one, just an example of what mountains I'm talking about.)

Wow, it's still snowing like crazy and it's starting to get dark, so it'll probably snow for most of the night (storm is suppose to pass tonight sometime).  We've gotten well over a foot now and will probably have at least 2 feet of snow by tommorrow.

I've never made a snowman before and I almost want to go out and make one, but I'm thinking at 28 I'm a little too old to do that  :P

Well here in the Low Lands its never cold. Half Europe, including most of Spain and the Po delta in Italy is suffering from snow these weeks, but here the North Sea keeps defrosting the air all winter long. Our famous 200km ice-skate marathon the 11 city run, will probably never be held again. Funny to hear someone complain about colds in England. Well England profits even more from the hot tub around them.

Still got some good snow on the mountains. This was yesterday, though the cloud cover last night kept it there through today. I should make a trip up there just to play. Curious, the green-leaved trees in the fore-ground, eh?

Been freezing in the seattle metro area for the past week or so.  We usually get a short bout of near freezing temps, but for it to be below freezing for more than a few days in a row is a once in a decade event.  It hasn't been above freezing for more than a few hours all week, and we're expecting another doozy of a storm tonite with high winds and a chance of 4-12" of snow in the metro area.

I'm from snow country so I like it and can handle the weather and roads, but damn it's funny seeing folks who get their panties in a twist when it snows hit the roads......

Yes, according to the stereotype of females and math: 51% is less than 50%.

Around here being female probably makes her a single digit minority... and being willing to admit it makes her a less than 1% minority.

It's about 2 degrees farenheit here this morning... school bus was a half hour late and I almost had to bring the kids in to avoid frostbite.  Poor little girl across the street stands there all alone even on days like this.  Makes me want to slap her parents around for a half hour.

One good thing, though - my brother came across some 8th row Patriots tickets last minute yesterday, gave them to me, so my wife and I were at the Pats game sitting through that ice storm watching the Pats kick the crap out of a completely incompetent Cardinals team.   :applaud:

HELLO???  Females are a literal minority, not thanks to stereotyping, but discrimination.  Women are promoted to executive-level positions with FAR less frequency than men.  They're paid less than men.  Despite their advantage in the overall population only 16 of 100 U.S. senators are women (15 if Hillary Clinton is replaced with a man).  As of this election cycle the New Hampshire state senate has more women in it than men.  That makes 2008 the first time in history that Women have been a majority in a state legislative branch.

In short, population is just about the only area where women are not a literal minority.  In other words, they are a nominal majority, but in any way that actually matters they are a minority.

That's why I pet-named him. No, though I may've dys'd it too in the early days, I just call him that because. As for pk, ya all are fu-nnY. This isn't the first time it's come up, I mentioned it a few times early on, and I swear some of you were involved meaning you knew and have forgotten. I stalk profiles on occasion, mostly out of location curiosity (There should be a requirement for having location specified (state, province, or atleast nation) on this forum).
Luckily I hit Javery's profile right before her B-day, so I sent her a PM wishing her a happy birthday (this was a few months ago, and I only really found out about it when using the calendar feature that showed her B-day coming up).

EDIT: Happy 78th Bday on the 25th to arc-ader.

I know at least a few of you here thought I was 'a hole'.   :laugh2:

---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, no doubt. I'm so guilty of that a while back. I really had to re-educate myself not to see it. But, hey, that's why the 'mixed letter' test works, eh?

I guess many of you don't regularly stalk profiles of anyone like I do.

What? javery's a girl?  Never made no mention, and now I can't even find the damn thing. Stupid search function.

Today I woke up to a thunder storm that washed away all the snow and they are saying there is a tornado warning.  It's about 50 degrees warmer than yesterday.

I think Ming is testing us.

We're getting some of the weird weather here in Oklahoma as well.
Was like 76 yesterday, then some hella thunderstorms rolled in this morning with a cold front.
Who knows what tomorrow may bring.  ::)

(still waiting on the ice)

Welcome to the Coldest Town on Earth (http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=oymyakon-the-coldest-town)

As winter sets in, the 800 hearty denizens of the coldest town on earth are bracing for one of the most frigid blasts yet, as forecasters predict that temperatures in Oymyakon, Siberia, could plunge to the coldest ever recorded in an inhabited location.

We had rain on the 26th, which finally brought the temperature down to freezing I think, and then the cloud cover lifted yesterday afternoon to show a bunch more snow on the peaks of the northern mountains and snow maybe down to 4000 feet on the eastern ones. All sunny today, too, and apparently mid 50s.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Shmokes. Luckily I live in a state that has 2 female federal senators. If memory serves me, this is the only state where this has happened. Regardless, I do not try to make waves here, this is an arcade forum/sausage fest so I am here for the MFM and minipac talks. :D
I was bored and looking through the stats for this forum and thought this was pretty funny:
Male to Female Ratio:   66.8 : 1

Hmm, The only way I could see such a ratio of males to females is if the guys come here to fornicate with other guys... Is there a hidden forum called "glory hole" or something? I see no evidence of a ladies night here... So one must wonder.

Also, as per the "MFM" thing, I was confusing a method of storing information magnetically with the style of wood often used in making arcade cabs which can be troublesome for people to load onto truck beds.  >:D
