Title: Ebay: I could totally screw this person...
Post by: shardian on December 16, 2008, 01:30:12 pm
I had watched a local auction for an overpriced Jukebox recently, and put in a starter bid for the hell of it for $100, even though the guy had a reserve. You never know what people set their reserve at. Well noone ever bid other than that.

I surprisingly just got a 2nd chance offer of my bid ($100)! I was shocked and ready to call the wife to get approval. Then I read closer. In the comments, the seller wrote I could have it if I paid before Christmas in the amount of $500.

I can understand being frustrated at ebay's fees, but the seller only has himself to blame for using BIN of $700 reserve of what I assume was $500. The Juke is max worth $250. What he did kind of pissed me off, and I briefly considered accepting the OFFICIAL offer of $100 just to screw with him. I also considered reporting him. In the end, I simply wrote to him this:
Quote
You can't put up a BIN offer of $100, and then ask for $500. That is violating ebay policy. I won't report you solely because I sympathize with the ridiculous fees ebay charges.

Anyways, I am not interested at that price. You would probably find a local buyer via craigslist, but I doubt for much more than $250.

What would you guys have done?

I probably would have done what you did, but depending on the tone of his response, I would probably think about reporting him.   :dunno

That seems perfectly reasonable to me as well. It's probably not worth the effort to have taken it further.

I would have just ignored it.

Person apparently didn't understand how the 2nd chance offer system works. They apologized and relisted for $500 BIN.

Ooo, I like that juke.  A little bulky, but excellent color scheme and pattern.

There was another exact same model 30 minutes down the road for $250 on ebay at the same time.

Looks like my Disco 200 .... there were a few variations of the R-82 and R-83 models that I know of.

I'd just fluff off the whole situation....there's plenty of jukes still out there of all kinds.

What's the rotation in that thing now?  Last I saw it was full of Journey style goodness.

I have the 'guts' to make a touchscreen jukebox, just not the time/space to build it. The only reason I want a jukebox is for the coin-op aspect. If it doesn't take a coin, I have no interest.

Very similar - Journey, Def Leppard, Survivor, big hair Ozzy, Blue Oyster Cult, etc.  It's one of the few things I still have from the first arcade lineup and it'll be the cornerstone as I build up the second, less overwhelming lineup.

Ditto.  Not worth wasting energy on.

Yeah I would report him and leave it at that.

I cannot understand why you started a thread over something so trivial.   ::)

"I left negative feedback and then canceled the transaction 2 seconds later in another window."

How do you cancel a transaction?  And can either seller or buyer do it?  And what's the advantage to canceling the transaction?  I've been on eBay for a while, but never heard of cancelling a transaction.  Thanks.
