OK, just to let everyone know I am starting my cab. project. I got an Asteroids Cab from Birdtales (also got a Q*Bert cab, but that another project). So here we go..... :-\

Do you plan on using the metal control panel it came with or do you plan on enlarging it? Most people around here build there own or enlarge their control panels so they have to fabricate something out of wood. If you do keep the metal CP, though, it will make the hardest part the easiest part. With a metal CP all you need is a drill and maybe a $25 jigsaw if you plan on adding a trackball.
I would have kept my metal CP except it wasn't big enough.

oh whew! Glad you didn't mame a machine that was in good condition :) I've been looking for an original cabinet for my uncle. He has asteroids but in a crappy cabinet.

1 - Yep, I still have the old CP, but it's too small. I planed on using it as a guide for the new one.
2 - I don't think I could have lived with myself if I destroyed an orignal cab in atleast usable condition. If you saw the Qbert cab in the pictures, my wife (who thankfully is 100% behind me on this hobby) wants me to get all the stuff to restore it. There isn't anything is it but come wireing and the marquee parts, but I'll find it..
3 - My wife has also informed me that she wants a cocktail cab made as well. Some of you guys have women who bug you about spending too much time/money on this stuff, mine is a slave driver and wants to know "when will you be finished so you can start this other one...." SHESH !!! ;D

Slow going on the project (money issues.. I hope to start updating the Website more.) but I have been able to work on some art for the CP..

If it's being names after Ironman, why wouldn't you want him as the center character on your CP?

while I am a big fan of the mad titan, and that is a mighty cool picture of doom (especially if he were holding the trackball!!), I think there are enough incarnations of the iron man armor to let him have the whole cp to himself!

man very good work on the art. but one thing that keeps bugging me when I look at it is One ironman is leaning forward with the camera kind of over his head.. I think that ironman looks alittle strange in the pic. If you had a pic of him standind, leaning away from the camera and from the bottom, I think would look better.(just a thought) Dont mind what I say Im just rambling.

well, mostly anyway..... are we truely every finished....
Well I know it's been over a year (some of you it only takes a few weeks to pump these out) but I finally finished my first MAME cabinet. I still have a few things to cleanup like : cleanup the wireing, route for t-molding on the CP, and touch-up paint. Since I took the pictures, I have put a 21" monitor in place of the 17". I want to have the sideart, marquee, CP cover and monitor bezel printing professionally. This was a real BLAST and can't wait to start on my next one. (hopefully it won't take as long.)
