Not a flashing super hero, but I loved the German series Derrick. Last weekend Horst Tappert died at 85 years.

Thanks for the unique, great television !

I have never seen nor heard of that in my life. Did it ever leave Germany?
-
Maybe I can pull the Derick costume for the last time out of the closet for Carnival this year.

Aired in over 100 countries....
281 episodes and ran for 25 years (1974-1998) ! (NO current show is going to reach that nowadays !)

Heh, I guess if you're a completely ignorant, insular American that's probably true!

Pinballjim, there you go showing your redneck "if it ain't American it's not of this planet" side again.
Just because Horst Tappert is not American, doesn't mean that he's not just as famous in Europe as any Hollywood actor, if not more famous. I grew up with series like Derrick, Tatort and der Alte. I even download the old series because my wife loves them.
You should try to watch a few episodes some time.

:) That's exactly what I was thinking.

The odd part about showing in 100 countries is that it doesn't seem to have been shown in either of the two I've lived in. Was it in German?

The one I saw was in German with subtitles, but apparently it was translated too:
A cult hit, Derrick was translated into 12 languages and had fans as far away as Australia, China, Japan, South America, Iran and South Africa, making Tappert one of the most widely recognized German actors in the world. The series also was popular in Italy and other European countries.
From: Horst Tappert, 85, was Germany's Inspector Derrick (http://forum.bcdb.com/forum/Error:%20Variable%20'hot_short_title'%20is%20not%20a%20code%20reference_P101200/)

I can see that and all: BUT... Who the ---fudgesicle--- is this guy? Never heard of him... :dunno

I have the same reaction with American football guys, wrestlers or that red haired Las Vegas "comedian" on steroids. There are threads about those people though.

Ahh good, atleast we both agree then.

I think what some of the board is trying to say is that even with the 100+ countries it aired in and was translated into..... it did NOT include the US.
Meaning many of us have never heard of him.
But non-the-less, respect goes out to the deceased and those that did know him.
-
There are 100 countries?
I thought there were only 7.
-
You're thinking of Continents.
-
No he isn't ;D :

Who?
Never heard of him.
Must be a German only Character.
You could say the same for Taggert I guess, but he is a Scot. ;)

Um... it's OK if you've never heard of any of those people.

I still like Bill Waterson's take on this tioopic from the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes:
"If English is good enough for me, it's good enough for the rest of the world!"
Just seemed to at least sort of fit, and I try to work it in every chance I get because it was such a funny comic strip...

Heh, I made that comment last night after 5 blue moons & half an orange.....I was laughing so loud during the preview :laugh2:
I love that America map showing where to get wine, coke & nikes....LMFAO!
Kangaroos?
Bombs go here?
Ha, thats awesome too.
But seriously, where is "lead poised child labor product of tainted formula" or "former USSR cant get along for ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---" or "people only visit here for prostitution" or "if you litter we Michael Faye your ass"?
Gawd I frickin love those maps, I am about to FW them to my friends.
-
Let's face it guys, maybe the series Derrick was just too difficult for our American friends.

The original series or the ones with Jajar Binks?

There are only 3 Star Wars movies.
The other 3 were made to remind us to watch the only 3.

America = Star Wars
All other countries = Stuff not as <edit>dumb<edit> as Star Wars.
Well Star Wars is the "Grimm-Snow-White-fairytale with added lasers to simulate masculinity for dumb men" equivalent of Star Trek, for those who don't understand all the science (fiction) in that.
Derrick was the 5-star Sudoku of Krimies (the word is German of course) on TV. You could get better in predicting who was the bad guy, but the writers always came up with a twist in the end.
But even Derrick can be surpassed, meet Tampert:

And for the maps of America: I thought America does not exist anymore:

That one stinks. Maybe the guys that wrote Derrick made it. ;)

Blanka just because your map is making fun of America doesn't actually make it funny (The others were hilarious, take it from an American).
Its funny we are perceived as idiots because most Americans are not arrogant or ignorant against other countries or cultures, we just don't care. We have NYC, Vegas, Texas & L.A., that's enough to keep us focused here & not elsewhere.
What does your country offer other than a few museums, canals, disco biscuits & this Derrick show with half the episodes of a cartoon?
You can study all you want about Iceland or Montana & then make remarks about how well read you are of other places but in the end it doesn't matter because you're not a diplomat, politician, prime minister, King or even an occult leader.
Excuse me, I have to go get gasoline @ Walmart >:D
I still like you Blanka, even if you do make fun of us ;D ;D
-
I don't make that fun. Guess it was made by people from Minnesota for the Onion or so. Minnesota is some alternative state isolated in Jesusland isn't it?

Not IN, but surrounded BY
