Title: Trying to iron out mame32
Post by: mimic on December 14, 2008, 09:23:58 pm
I'm trying to put final touches on my cabinet + iron out some issues and I'm getting "slightly" annoyed.
First issue is the tv. Computer will not start with only tv connected, it will only work if there is monitor hooked up. What is really bizzare and puzzling that computer will boot if power to monitor is disconnected! but monitor cable is still hooked up. What the hell!? I tried to hook up just a rgb cable but that didn't do the trick

next issue I'm using mame32FX, when I unchek [no bezel], it just does that doesn't show bezel, but the game window will not get resized it still the same size as if fake bezel was still present.

Text in window in tv is almost unreadable, can't find an option to make the text appear bigger I found option that would blow up size of fonts on the desktop and that blue information box in windows on the top, but txt names in mame32 FX are still regular size and unreadable.

That's not it. I already set up tv as primary and only display and res is set to 640x480. And why would it work with monitor that power is disconneted anyway!?

Mame32 had it's own font settings last time I used it.  You should be able to set the size and colors of your parent and clone fonts within the program.

Your PC may have a display detection feature.  You can probably fake-out the detection circuit 75Ω or 300Ω resistor or perhaps a proper VGA termination kit.  I once had a Mini-ITX board which would only boot with the TV-out signal on if it detected a TV, and a TV which would not turn on without a detected signal.  Simply adding a resistor across the coax "fixed" it.

I don't know how could I've missed it, but sure there is font option there! Thank you.
Also thank you for telling me about the vga terminating. I found some pdf document with instructions on how to do it. I'm going give it a try http://www.extron.com/download/files/userman/VGA_card.pdf

As to my last question I found an answer myself. All I had to do was to check [crop artwork] that did the trick
thx for all help, case closed

A PC knows what monitor is connected to it by the E....um, something standard. Basically, it's a display communication standard between monitors and PCs for various reasons. I wonder if there's something in your bios settings that can be disabled or altered.

PC knows squat if power cord to the monitor is unpluged, yet it will not boot without monitor cord plugged in to the pc = like NickG said must be something in the monitor cable itself.
I checked BIOS priorhand and indeed there was some option regarding tv or some kind of external video input, but it didn't do anything.

What computer (chip and motherboard) and video card are you using?
