Title: Q*Bert 8-way joystick remapping
Post by: encom on December 11, 2008, 03:31:07 pm
This was posted a while back, way back ... but does anyone remember how to remap an 8-way joystick to make gameplay a little easier in Q*Bert? This involved editing the input controls through MAME.

Someone did the config a few years back, but the search option yielded no return.  :(

The quickest way is to start qbert, tab, "Input (this game)", and then remap as below:

mame up: joystick up right
mame down: joystick down left
mame left: joystick up left
mame right: joystick down right

There are other ways too, such as using -joystick_map if and only if you joystick is a game controller to windows, but I won't go into that unless you want.

That's what I was trying to find. Thanks mate. Makes falling off the side a little harder to do.  ;D

Unfortunately, with a digital stick it's not very good because the diagonals are so narrow compared to main directions, the latter being enormous dead spots. Annoying enough to me that I didn't play it untill I got a stick that could properly perform.
