Title: Six-Pack Man
Post by: Neverending Project on December 08, 2008, 11:49:48 am
I came across this sighting in the wild this past weekend at the OMSI in Portland. I have been there many times, but have never seen this exhibit. It is a Pac-Man game they are using to demonstrate how your hand-eye coordination will become impaired when your BAC (Blood Alochol Content) gets above 0.08, hence the name Six-Pack Man. It is an actual Pac-Man, but they have it rigged so Pac's movements seriously lag behind your pushing the joystick. In fact, sometimes he won't even go the direction you push! It is pretty amusing.

The OMSI (http://www.omsi.edu) is the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. It is a hands-on museum with interactive exhibits and tons of really great stuff. For me, it felt more like playing a game with a malfunctioning joystick than anything else... but maybe that's because my game play tends to get better after a few beers. OK, to a point... then it can be diminishing returns.

I just found this amusing, and though I would share.

I bet I could drink 6 beers and play better on a real pacman machine better then that kid on the drink simulator one.

Who gets drunk on a 6 pack?

I forgot about that - I think I saw it there several years ago.

I definitely play better when I'm only half-way paying attention on Ms. Pac. Never tried it drunk (Mainly because I don't get drunk), but bet money I would have higher scores when slightly buzzed.

My google-fu is off tonight. Whats the general rule for about a 170 lb male with a half full stomach full of food to be "drunk"? (.08)

Looks like id be pretty trashed on a six pack. Playing Pac Man might be a little impossible...

When I set my all-time high score on Time Pilot, I was so loaded that I had to hold onto the machine to stand up.  :D
Had family from out of state over, and they were equally lit.

Note the attract mode. That is one of the FEW games where the more random and frequently turning the player, the more likely they'll survive. Going in straight lines in that game (and TP84) is almost certain death.
