Title: What's the best way to clean out a trackball?
Post by: Jimbo on December 07, 2008, 04:03:53 pm
I have a Happ 3" high-ball trackball.  It's not working that great when spinning to the right, so I've opened it up and taken it apart.

I have the ball, rollers, and bearings.  I've soaked the ball and rollers in some warm soapy water and given them a good clean.

If anyone has some good advice on what to do with the bearings, and in general if I've missed anything, that would be great.

If the bearings are bound up, some folks recommend spinning them using a drill (technique shown in link below). I just pitch them at that point (only two so far and those were, coincidentally, pitched this weekend). I use 3-in-1 oil to lubricate trackball bearings.

At the end of the day, you are probably best to follow the advice of Bob Roberts on the subject (http://arcadecontrols.com/BBBB/moretb.html).

Thanks.  Thats a good article!  I'll get some 3-in-1 oil and give it a try.
