Title: NeoGeo nebula now working with mala but...
Post by: beercade on December 07, 2008, 12:28:26 pm
The Rom names are not very user friendly.  King of fighters is kof in mala game list and so on.  In nubula the games show up with the correct name because nebula uses a dat file.  Is there any way to merge the dat file with mala game list for neogeo?  My other alternative is to rename all 477 roms?
Thanks.

I do believe that if you rename the rom files Nebula will no longer recognize them.  I think this post can help you generate the list you need http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=77159.0

I actually looked at this before posting, but I would still have to manually change the names in the XML file to reflect the name I wanted because Romdir2XML uses the rom names to create the xml.  I Have a DAT file with rom name and full game name but I can not import it into Romdir2XML.  If I could that would solve my problem.  I have also tried DATtoXML converters, and almost every tool at http://www.logiqx.com/ site, ive searched the internets for neogeo xml lists, I have played around with Romcenter with no luck. I know someone out there has done this, Im sure im just missing something simple.

I don't have mala on this computer to try, but this might work.  If you have mame, point your Mala mame rom dir to your NeoGeo dir.  Use the game list editor to make a Mame game list (this should automatically add the rom names for the files.)  Then save that and rename the file extension from .mlg to .ml#, # being the number that is associated with Nebula.  You can then tell Mala to use that game list for Nebula.  Like I said, not sure if this will work, but it's worth a try.

Ok, so essentially use the mameinfo.xml to populate my neogeo names.  Good thought I will try it.  It should work as along as the neogeo roms are named the same in mame.  It would be great if this was an option  in mala for other emulators to use a xml or dat files to pull names from, or even added to the mala gamelist editor.

They are named the same in mame.  In fact I too tried to get Nebula to work in Mala a while back.  I eventually gave up and just used Mame instead.  You may want to consider that an option.

This worked nicely for every single rom.  Nebula in MaLa is now 100% operational.
Cheers!

I'm glad that worked.  If you don't mind me asking, what did you use for the command line string to get it to work?

I simply used %rom%, also you need to set the rom path in nubula. and I also had to use a mala hotkey to close nebula.
