I'd like to have my mame autosave games when I exit, and autoload when i start them... this way it will always save my place, and my high scores all at the same time ( i know I can compile my own blah blah, but I'd rather do it this way) anyone know how to do this? thanks!

Mame has the -autosave option. When enabled, mame will auto save the game at exit and auto load at gameload, but only for games that have savestate emulated, are the flag set as such. Needless to say, not all games have statesave emulated. :-\
