In this economic climate, things may get even crazier than normal, so be prepared!
I stole this wonderful List for the best Black friday sales (http://globalgmail.com/upload/black_friday_hot_deals.pdf) from my friend. I love the Apple laptop and the sale price...I also create my Own Thanksgiving BlackFriday Deals List Here (http://www.dealstudio.com/viewholidaydeals2.php)
u can check it, u will be suprised by the sale price.
Hehe.
Now show us..What are your Black Friday plans?
-
None this year. Every year I'm finding fewer and fewer deals that I would go for.
Last year all I picked up was The Orange Box because it was an awesome deal. Haven't seen anything this year that I would even consider.
-
I'm staying home. I don't need that kind of stress in my life.
-
With the advent of FatWallet and other deal sites you really don't need Black Friday to get those types of deals anymore.
-
You can get better deals right now than what is considered a 'doorbuster' on Friday. I just got a WD Passport 400gb portable Hard Drive for $80 from Staples.com . The best you can do on Friday is maybe a 250gb one (year old model that should be clearance anyways) for $99.
The computer deals suck, and the TV deals are pretty much normal sale price - except for the junk models they can only sell on Black Friday.
I will be sleeping in.
-
Not to mention the "black friday" deals some online retailers are offering.
-
Best Buy is putting most of the Dorrbusters online too. Sure the price might be 10%-20% higher, but you won't have to wait in line for 10 hours in the freezing cold, then another 3 in the checkout.
-
Sleeping in. There's nothing that warrants me getting up that early and having to fight crowds.
-
...and I love how for almost any web vendor you can google up some promo codes in about a minute. Saves so much money. I just bought my wife some stuff from the Disney store and picked up free shipping ($15) and $15 off $99 or more. Extra $30 off ain't bad. :applaud:

That's true. In some cases you can buy coupon codes for the real good deals. That's what I did on the HD - bought a $25 off $100 coupon for $1.

The only thing I'm really looking for is an inexpensive desktop for my mother. She doesn't need anything more than basic net/email but I'd like her to have a new machine so I don't spend tons of time supporting the machine. And she needs a good monitor so she can see. I'm hoping to find a basic desktop w/o monitor for a couple hundred and then a 21" monitor int he $100-150 range.

With the cashback & slickdeals.net, Im getting better deals online

I'll be playing the one game of tackle football I play a year. Every year, at noon, on the Friday after Thanksgiving. 17th season. I was looking at who was coming and for the first time, I'm the oldest player (30). :'(
-
Heh, I used to have one of those games too, until we had to kill it 3-4 years ago. I was the only guy showing up who wasn't 60lb overweight, could still run 20 yards, or suddenly afraid to get a bruise. Or in many cases all three.

Office Depot has a 22" for $130.
Acer 22-inch LCD Monitor
$129.99 at Office Depot [AL2216Wbd]
Whether you're still clinging to that old CRT and waiting for LCDs to come down in price, or just need to upgrade from the 17-incher that came with your PC, the price is right for 22 inches of glorious desktop space. This one has solid stats, including 1680 x 1050 resolution and 5ms response times, and has received generally positive reviews, too. Already own a huge monitor? How about dual display? Triple? C'mon...

And hereafter, the day will be referred to as "black and blue Friday..."

That's probably as good as I'm going to get. And I got onto IBM's friends/family website that is having a good sale. I'm looking at a pretty decent Lenovo desktop for $289 shipped.

What IS black friday? :dunno
Looked it up on the Pedia.
Ah! Its the day all black Pete's do the shopping for Saint Nicolas:

The really sad thing about Black Friday now? There is still gonna be people camping out for over 24 hours for this worthless ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- - all to save 10%.

There is a a premium outlet mall a mile from my house. People line up hours beforehand in their cars to get into the parking lot at midnight. My street is backed up for 10 miles from about 10pm Thanksgiving. Last year, at the Coach store, there was actually a mini riot, and the cops had to subdue several women. All for a 10% discount on Coach bags.

Like the three shopping fool days at the Bijenkorf?

Zillions of woman pulling on the same cheap panties, and beating each other with limited run cheap designer bags.

Acer 22-inch LCD Monitor
$129.99 at Office Depot [AL2216Wbd]
Just found it... hopefully I'll be able to get that online. It's listed at 220 right now.

Good luck. I have never and will never go out shopping on that day. I'd rather use a 13" green screen than fighting a crowd for a monitor (even for mom)...
-
Yeah. I'll drop it down to 19" and wait for a Newegg sale before I'll get up at 5am friday, fight all that, and still be at work by 8:30.
-
I think we'll find the same or better deals as we get closer to Christmas. If people are sitting on their money, retailers will be scrambling to get additional revenue. Missing out on this may not be a big deal as you'll probably be able to find something fairly close to the deal in a few weeks.
Working on Friday? That sucks. Choice yours or theirs?

Mine, mostly. Didn't feel like burning a vacation day on it. I have a habit of hoarding them after being laid off so many times during the dotcom crash.
-
sleep
i work tomorrow so friday is just another off day for me
-
Black Friday eh? Isn't that the day where retailers advertise one or two super-great, can't pass it up deals, but only stock up on a few... so that when you get there, they are out of stock, but they count on you buying other crap?
-
I'm going to sit at home, eat leftovers, and laugh at all of the suckers fighting it out out over supposed "bargains."
-
I'm coming home for a few days to ship my dog back to the UK. I hope they have the same deal on next week. Especially at Fry's.
Well I have two empty suitcases to fill..... ;D
-
Not that I care one bit about these "sales" .... but here's a link a friend of mine sent me for some Black Friday stuff. I haven't even looked through them, so no guarantees of anything worth looking into.

I'll be out in it just to witness the carnage. Most stores here are opening at 4 AM.
Seriously, may be at best buy to try and get my mother a decent cheaper PC. For the first time in what feels like forever, I have the funds to do so...may give that a try.
-
I'll be sleeping in and then laying tile for a bathroom floor....how's that for supporting the economy? ;D
The only thing I'm "looking for" is a 22-24" LCD TV for my kitchen to replace the 17" that's in there and dying. The only BF deals I've seen in that range are for total crap tv's, and I want to get a decent brand -> sharp, samsung, sony, etc.
I'm tempted to go out just to see the carnage, but honestly? I'd rather sleep :)
-
I'm in line right now, been here for an hour. 5 hours to go. Someone entertain me...
-
The wife and I will be headed out at around 4:30 to pick up a few things for our kids. We've gone the last two years and gotten some pretty good deals for stuff we wanted for our selves but this year the deals are friggin horrible. As for the argument of how much you really save... I believe we are saving more than using some of the online savings finders and such. We are planning on spending about $150 on ~$230 worth of stuff, half of which we were going to buy eventually anyway and the other half are perfectly good gifts for kids that we weren't necessarily planning on buying but could have very well have ended up getting for them for the middle one's B-day in 4 days or Christmas... Plus it's kinda fun getting caught up in the excitement/watch the crazies!
I better get to sleep though, at this rate I'll only get 3 hours of sleep.
P.S.
What the hell are you doing in line at this time Saint? I haven't seen any phenomenal deals this year worth camping out over, although it is 27º where I live...
-
The temp definitely matters... it would have to be some super fantastic deals for me to be out there in the ten degree weather. There is like a 16th of an inch of frost on my windshield this morning.

Someone just told me about this. I hope everyone of those customers suffers a slow death from a fatal disease. Consumerism at its finest I suppose. They are lucky those officers didn't decide to "go wild" and unload their guns on the horde, I know I would have.
I know there is really no way Walmart could have foreseen such horrible customers but it would have made sense to have those barricades setup in a way that forces a single file line. I still can't believe they tore the doors off. Off a Walmart. For 8 dollar pants and someone's life. Will the card on the pants say that someone literally had to die for you to get them merry christmas?

Shooting at a Toys R Us in Palm City.
So what's the final body count for this ?

I have no idea. Was looking to pick up a desktop and a couple of laptops, but only the desktop was for me and that was only an idle want because I want to tinker with a Vista Home Premium media center system without reloading any of my current boxes. I had been planning to skip it but I had a friend and two relatives ask me to either join me or have me get something for them. My friend and cousin both changed their minds, but I'll do anything for my mother in law so in line I went.
Total bust though. This was the worst black Friday in the roughly 10 years I've been doing it. Deals were scarce, quantities of the deals they did have were low (12 laptops instead of the 25-50 they've had in previous years, etc), and the turnout was easily half of the number of people I've seen the last few years. Sadly though, the smaller number of people turned up much much earlier than before. A few years ago, getting in line at 3 AM would have put me about 50th in line. This year, getting in line at 11 PM put me about 60th in line! That couple with the small quantities meant I got nothing I came for. I spent less this Black Friday than I have in the past 5 years.
Told my buddy who wasn't able to come this year (not the one who bailed on me, but my normal wingman for most craziness) that I was done. He was disappointed for me but has hoorah'ed me into agreeing to go again next year. I am a dimwitted man at times....

Oh, and having said all that, and having what I observed echo'ed to me by my wife and mother in law who were in line at Toys R Us at 3 AM -- I don't understand this report from Fox News at all:
Black Friday Sales Up 3 Percent From Last Year
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,459226,00.html
Not in my neck of the woods. We went into Nordstrom's and saw no less than 5 sales people dejectedly wandering around looking for customers. There were so few customers it looked like a few minute before closing, not in the heat of the busiest part of Black Friday (roughly 10 AM).
My wife points out though that maybe because the deals weren't as good that margins may have been better, making it more profitable for dealers. Dunno.

walmart was effin crazy. Employees were clueless(more than usual) about unwrapping palletes. So idiot customers decided to do it for them, it was a spectacle, just one big mess turning into chaos. You couldnt even get within a 150ft radius of the electronics section at all.
On a lighter note, there was approximately 12 people at Office Max. I scored a nice HP ALL-in-One I had my eye on for $49, so the efforts werent a total bust. Picked up a decent secondary pair of earbuds at K-fart for $10 and im actually impressed by how they sound. I'll be mowing in style this spring ;D Tons and tons of external drive deals about, but I wasnt impressed to be honest. Definitely a lackluster BF. I am the same as saint, been doin it for as long as I can recall. But this year was abysmal. Advertised minimum limit of items were not even close as to what was printed in ads. They of course "claim" it was misprints so they get away with it. From what I saw in my neck of the woods, LCD TV's were of course the big ticket items. And surprisingly I saw alot of cookware and crockpots being bought up :dunno Didnt see 360's, wii's ps2's or even ps3's flying off the shelves either here :dunno But a ton of Guitar Hero and Crockstar crap being sold as well as alot of PSP and DS deals. Thats about all i recall.......oh almost forgot, scored seasons 9-10 of simpsons thinking I was all caught up, only to see on the shelf that season 11 is out! DOH! It was sold out, so ill be lookin for it as well now. Now to stay up late or early monday morning depending how you look at it for the CyberMonday deals. Lots of free shipping to be had on those folks, so keep your eyelids taped open at 3am, cause the fury will begin right in front of your keyboards. Game On!
-
I have to ask Saint - if you were already 60th in line and knew you wouldn't be getting any of the tickets you wanted, why did you stay?
P.S. Best Buy and pretty much all the other retailers put almost all of their Door busters online starting on Thursday. That $199 LCD TV Best Buy had? I stared at the 'Add to cart" button for a while Thursday morning before declining. And to think people would be lining up that night for what they could buy right now? HILARIOUS!!!

You don't know how many tickets they have, and not everyone in front of you wants the same item you want. I'm usually 50th to 60th in line, and this is the first year they ran out before they got to me.
-
It seems it is standard practice at Best Buy for the 1st people in line to take one of EVERY ticket since they are not limited to a few items. Then they try to sell them or just abandon them later. 2 years ago my friend got one of the $180 desktops at 10am because of an abandoned ticket I found just laying in a buggy in the parking lot.
