Title: How to use CP to play PC games?
Post by: heebeegb on November 24, 2008, 09:02:08 am
I have been Googling and searching in this forum and cannot find answer.

I tried playing Rebel Assault from PC on my computer and I realized:
I don't know how to configure buttons and joystick from Control Panel to work in this game.
The third button worked as a pause button (By Default), but that was it.

But how to configure?
I added joystick in control panel, but could not figure it out.
Do I do it from the game itself?
or do I run the PC game through a Front End?

DO I need to install a PC joystick separate on the control panel for PC games specifically?

Any direction.
thanks

Most PC games are configured inside the game or by running a config program that comes with the game.

It also depends on a few things as well. You didn't actually say if you were trying to play the game from your arcade cabinet or not. If so it depends on what keyboard encoder your using, joysticks etc. The IPAC is just like a standard keyboard so if the game supports keyboard input (like most PC games do) then just configure it that way. If your using U360's which are just like analog joysticks and the game has joystick support then set it up to use joystick. If you need to use a joystick in the game and you have an IPAC then you can use a program like PPJoy to convert keyboard input to virtual joystick input. If you have a KeyWiz then I believe that is treated like a joystick as well. Finally if the game has keyboard support only and you want to use a U360 or KeyWiz you can use XPAdder to convert joystick input to keyboard input.

The bottom line is though you should have a menu in the game where you can configure input.

Stop right there.

Isn't that a DOS game?

Could be the start of your problems.

This is a dos game and hence it need the old gameport to get this to work, except if you are not using a dosbox or such emulator which might can emulate your joystick using USB. The configuration if I remember correct was done in a sepeate config which game in the game.

Otherwice it a cool dos game, but mostly placed II of this serie, which it was that game, I started to use Invert-Y in all 3d games and have do that since.
