Title: Holiday / Seasonal Layouts (Easter '09)
Post by: system01 on November 21, 2008, 11:59:09 pm
I creating a new thread stemming from this:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=85195.0
I feel its taking a different direction, plus Ive had some issues lately with data loss.

Anyway, Ive been talking with mrclean about some things and heres a preview of a Thanksgiving layout.  Its kinda rushed as I lost everything, and he says he has a party tomorrow so I wanna help him out.  (mrclean: pm sent).  Its a pretty close modification of the Halloween theme, but I hope you quick-layout-changers enjoy it.

Loadman and I talked a little about layout layout packs, but as Ive started talking to people, its seeming more difficult to sync up to everybody.  Being in California, US, I didn't realize how the southern hemisphere worked calendar-wise.  It turns out that you guys in Oz use the same months, but the seasons are out of phase 6 months.  So your winters are cold, but only during my hot summers - still July (correct?).  Im not sure how to cater to everybody.

...Anyways, I lost both the Winter theme and Thanksgiving theme cos I suck.  I whipped this up for mrclean cos he had the only really proactive response.  I don't even know where he lives or celebrates Thanksgiving.  I know I phoned it in, but heres what will prolly be released tomorrow.  Im still working on sounds and some small tweaks.

Pics:  Snap.jpg has turkey feathers behind the menus and some additional texturing - I think its too busy.  Snap 2.jpg is just a solid gradient and looks a bit cleaner - Im sticking with this unless I hear different from you guys.

It's funny as we still have the same xmas songs, eg 'Frosty the Snowman'. Very funny listening to that while drinking a beer in the pool

Winter '08 has been salvaged and submitted to malafe.  Its kinda buggy with all the transparency, but looks nice once its going.

@Sardu: Thank you.

Heres a preview of Christmas!  This one was actually all done from scratch by me, except for the random tree in the reflection.

Im trying to create the circular masks to go around snaps and such, kinda like gamecreature did.   Im having issues with transparency (again).  This also forces it "fixed".  The blue bulb will be snaps, red will be list, and green will be marquees or controls or whatever.

Let me know your thoughts/changes, although Id rather not change and render the back image anymore as Ive done it 100 times already.

Very nice picture, did you use PovRay or another 3D program to create it?

Im a mech drafter/solid modeler, so I used Autodesk Inventor.  Theyve really stepped up their render & animation side of it over the last few releases, although it still leaves much to be desired.  I guess they dont want it to compete with their own 3DSmax. ;)

Mee-ree Christmas!

Heres what Ive got so far for New Year!  A lot of past stuff from '08, which isnt really much.  I tried to keep pretty global, but there just wasnt much that stuck out for the year.

Im having a real problem with the menu system.  The background is so confusing that its hard to contrast it, and fake transparency doesnt really work either since text seems to blend right in.

If anyone has any suggestions, let me know.

Also, if youre wondering about what all the pics are, Ill be providing a legend.

I know.  While I was looking for images I found that theres not much in '08 to be proud of.  I had 3 other guys helping me on topics and couldnt find much positive.

Anyways, keep an eye out on malafe.net for "New Year '09".

Heres a screenie and the legend.

Happy not-quite New Year!

Just for loadman - not that he'll use it - is the next holiday... Australia Day!

Im debating on if I should take the 'history' route, or the 'party' route.  Im sure the same prob will show up for US Independence Day.  Or Cinco de Mayo (maybe).  So many 'Mericans complain about Mexicans, but they sure do enjoy their parties. :-\

Heres a small preview.

Nice One  ;)

I don't like our flag much though,  :P

Doh!  Youre gonna hate the layout then, TONS of AU-brandery. ;D

Ive decided to do a beach/party theme, but still on the fence on what exactly to do yet.

I thought I was being somewhat original on the logo, taking a hint from all those red-green-black Africa things everybody does.  Then I ventured off into the inky darkness known as Google Images and found theres pantloads of 'em! :(

Allright, I totally dropped the ball for Australia Day.  I apologize.:'(  I had another project come up and it kinda slipped my mind.

Im also in a rut, trying to find new ways of making holiday themes.  Its getting hard to be original.  I keep coming up with "my style".:o

Anyways, Happy Valentine's Day!  Soon available on malefe.net.

Attached are alternate vertical backgrounds that contain an extra marquee box.  These wouldve been in the ZIP but, THERES A 5 MEG CAP!  <ahem>... loadman...

Hey were do you guys get the MALA logo? Or do you remake it?

I would like to get a version of it to modify and add to my layout. Can someone post an easily editable PSD of it?

Thanks much,
Deefish

I can't feel that I can give it to you personally.  Headkaze created it.  I contacted him and told him what I was doing with it and he happily sent the PSD.  I don't think he's stingy with it, I just don't want to step on toes.

Ahh, I see no problem. I will ask Headkaze for it.

Thanks,
