I have a 64 bit dual core amd 5000+ 2.6ghz cpu and 2gb of 800mhz ddr2 ram and a 500gb hd and a soundblaster live soundcard....
also have a geforce 8800 superclocked pci express video card
will he video card help me at all, i run an lcd monitor
would I be ok selling the video card and using the cab wihout it if all I play is mame since mame uses cpu and not 3d processing?

You'll need a video card.
;)
I presume you meant you want to use the onboard video card instead of the geforce 8800? Simply try it out and see for yourself.
-
+1 vote for keeping the video card; you never know what other emus/games you might want to run on your cab 8)
-
would it run fine tho without it?

The 8800 is way over the top. It's just a 100 watt useless heat generator for MAME & co. The only thing emu's rely on is OpenGL/Direct X upscaling of the low res images to the screen res. A Geforce 7300GT is fast enough for that, as well as most onboard graphics like crappy GMA 950. Buy a second hand 7300, sell your 8800 now it's still worth something and get a keg of beer for the difference.

My cab runs (actually irt will) with the radeon x1200 that is embedded on my motherboard.
If you dont need 3D for games (for games i mean "crysis" or "doom3" for PSX and DC emu you don't need too much firepower) is more than enough.

I am running a ATI 4850 in my rig.
-
The card is overkill but you do not want to use onboard video. Anything 7300 & up would work
-
And get one of the silent ones. A 7300LE is 25 euro's here, an 8500GT 40. The 4850 is 150 euro's, too much imo.
-
I agree that my card is overkill for Mame maybe but not so much for console emualtion like Saturn, Dreamcast and some of the others. I guess it's all what you want to do.

Don't forget the occasional PC game like Street Fighter IV or the new Bionic Commando that's going to need some graphics horsepower. If you have any interest in playing some newer PC games like these two then hold on to it. Otherwise, you can ditch it.
