one of the fond memories i have of living in holland when i was a kid is of a mascot for one of the tv stations. this station used to show a claymation of him in between shows. it was of a lion, and he would often be trying to take a photo of the sunset. the sun would always outsmart him. i used to love it more than the shows (",)
anyway, i bet there are youtube vids to be had. but how to search for it? i dont remember the name of the station, or the mascot. im not fluent in dutch anymore (i was when i was five :)) and no doubt any youtube postings will be in dutch.
any suggestions or leads?

It's not a clay figure, but do you mean Loeki de Leeuw (Lion) ?

He was on between commercials (until the couple of seconds he "used" between commercials became even more important to get money for the public stations). Commercials on public stations always are between programs and not in the middle of programs like on the commercial stations so maybe that's why you remember him being in-between shows.

A lion was chosen because the lion is in the Dutch "coat of arms" (needed Wikipedia for that word :) ):

The name Loeki is pronounced look-y, which in turn is of course a reference to looking.
Last time he was on was dec. 31, 2004 but the Dutch awards for commercials are still called "Golden Loeki"
Not sure when you left the country but this is from 1976 (I loved watching it myself, remembered almost all of the commercials, and I actually could sing the song for "Mr.Edet" straight away ! :laugh2: :laugh2:)

and yes, i remember now that those public stations had advertising in between shows, not during. there is a station here (SBS, brilliant station) that used to do that. sadly they now do what the regular stations do and show the ads during the programme- even the news :angry: but its the only way i can see inspektor rex, southpark, top gear AND mythbusters ;D

oh, and i was there 75-76. back during holidays in '85, where one of the first things i did was to look for this lion on the telly!

Btw, who remembers de Bereboot, Paulus de Boskabouter and Beertje Kolakol? Why did Dutch childrenshows always take place in the woods or with bears?
