Title: pc games
Post by: dcninj4 on November 19, 2008, 11:07:29 pm
I've always been a fan of classic games, but when I discovered mame and arcade cabinets, that was it... all I ever play is mame now. Anyone else shun other forms of gaming for their cabs?

To me console games aren't as fun because I can play them on my cab, and pc games aren't as exciting anymore....this happen to anyone else?

I find myself going through cycles.  There are short stretches of time I'm only into the cab, then others when I'm borderline obsessed with playing PC games, and then finally others where I curl up with a good console game.

I don't play the arcade classics on anything but my cab though.  ;)

Up until my motherboard problem, I'd been playing more PC games, but now I'm working on and playing my MAME cab more, plus I've added some doujin soft shooters to my cab.

This is the season where at least one good game is coming out every week. I'm playing more on the PC than the MAME cabs. That will reverse again after Christmas when the new releases dry up.

I'm new to MAME and I have been blown away since July 2008...In the past I was playing PC games so much my wife was jealous...but I had a bad experience with buying a Star Wars type game and the registry key didnt work...(Damn you G Lucas!) It was because of Old Arcade games that made me the geek I am today...( i spent my summers during high school working at an arcade) and when I found out about MAME...I was on a mission...I must have one!!!

I have never really played PC Games  (except King quest 1 (in CGA mode!!) , King quest 5 , Duke Nukem and Diablo , i loved ).

I started to collect old consoles and old computer when they aren't still very old and i play on them.  I got my first cab in 1989 with a set of PCB  (no mame at this time!) and played lot on it too.

In fact i don't have time to play on todays PC games. They are too big.  You can pickup a old game like pacman , popeye play few minutes and you have fun.  Today's PC Games you have to have to time to invest in it.  And they are not really fun .  Very nice , but not very fun.

Mame is very usefull for me , because it simply avoid me to switch PCB!!!

I play pc games on my cab all the time

I use soft15K on my cab with a X1950 pro 512MB DDR3 VGA Card

I have a 3" trackball mounted in the center and a 2 player 6 button layout

recently played through:

resident evil 4 can be played with joystick and buttons only

call of duty 2 & 3 I used the joystick for the walking and the TB unit for the aiming

prince of persia two thrones used 360 wireless controller with gaming reciever

john woo's stranglehold 360 wireless controller with gaming reciever

few need for speeds with 360 wireless racing wheel with gaming reciever

company of hereos P1 joystick to move the view the trackball unit and its two mouse buttons do everyting else.

brothers in arms earned in blood used joystick to move and trackball unit to aim.

medal of honor pacific assualt used joystick to move and trackball unit to aim.

I also have regular console's that I could plug into the cabs mounitor and controls by DB-25 so it is my all around gaming machine all built into one peice so nothig gets favored over the other for me really..

I was someone who played PC games until I discovered MAME, then abandoned PC games to play MAME (especially after I'd destroyed a keyboard playing Track and Field), then discovered that I didn't have time to play PC and MAME...

...so I built a cabinet that now plays MAME, about 8 other emulators AND PC games (mostly the old DOS games), and I can sit in my basement and nobody would hear from me for hours.  It's far better, I find, to play KLAX in MAME for a few minutes, then jump to Atari 2600 because Air-Sea Battle is calling you, then Baseball Simulator 1.000 for NES gets a bit of play...

...wonderful if you're borderline ADD.

I agree with Youki - today's PC games are all just variants of the same idea (let's face it - Ultima III & IV defined RPG's for the rest of eternity), and who has the time?

Depending on who you ask, this was a great idea (ask me or my son) or a terrible idea (ask my wife), so perhaps it's possible to have too much...but if you put everything in one place, you might use it all.

After the birth of my son this year (first time parent)  I play my arcade cabinet more, since they are shorter games, unlike PC games which can takes weeks sometimes to finish.

However, I will say, that I play online games every now and then (Team Fortress 2) on my PC, since I can't play that on my Cabinet.

Does anyone have a formal list of PC games they play on their CAB and what controls they use with those games?

Thanks,
Chad D. Bryant

I like to Play Tiger Woods 08 on my Arcade Machine with the trackball. (x-arcade tankstik)
Its easily beats Golden Tee Golf as my favorite golf game.
