I've got a small project box and eight of these small pushbuttons:

I'm looking to have two rows of four buttons in the box, and I'll keep it in the coin door. I'm trying to decide what eight MAME functions I'd like to have on there. I already have TAB on top of the cabinet, and currently use it shifted for F2 (service), but I'm looking to put service on the box. Also the options accessed via tilde ~.
These are running through one of my U360s, so it will be seen as gamepad buttons, not keyboard (though I could use joy2key if needed).
Any suggestions?
I just thought I'd see if there are functions I haven't thought of that are worth having on there.

You could make a tiny game show studio set for your hamsters. I've always wanted to see Hamster Jeopardy

Sigh....

Oh, you should have expected that! ;)
Are you looking for suggestions like: power, pause, vol +, vol - etc? I wasn't sure when I read the post the first time.

no admin buttons is the best answer to me.
To me, your question might as well be: "should I add 46 admin buttons or 47?". 0 is a good number.
The shifted buttons I use are:
quit game
exit front end
pause
but they are all hidden commands.

I'm getting rid of the shifted commands (other than ESC) and moving all non-essential commands to a project box inside the coin door.

I see.
I don't use those types of admin buttons anywhere on my cabs.

Well, I don't have any on my cab, other than a multipurpose pause button next to each player start, but I got tired of (A) trying to remember what each shifted function was and (B) people playing and wondering how they got into a menu or whatnot.
This way, things I don't always use I just reach inside for. Nothing visible or accessible from the outside. It's no different than reach in for a keyboard.

I have something similar inside my cabinet. I call it a keyboard. :P
I'm just being wise, and I can see the appeal of making it "cool looking". I would definitely make the buttons, in order: Volume Up, Down, Menu (Tab), Reset, Dispense Beer, Boss Panic Key (puts a spreadsheet graphic on your cab's screen in case your superior breaks into your house to see if your productive on your own time), Whopper Dispenser ( :burgerking:), and Oil Slick.
Okay, I only had ideas for half your allotment, but get to cranking on that fifth "Beer" key. ;D
