I'm running MAME 0.110 under WinXP Home, P4 3Ghz, 2GB RAM, and well .. I can play it, but the music is a bit stuttery, and there are no sound effects. I have a 2-fold question:
• Is there a more recent version of MAME that can play this game full-speed w/full sound (or very close)?
• If so, how can I get MAMEwah to launch this game using the newer mame version?
Thanks in advance .. just hearing the music makes the hairs on my arms stand up :afro:

What about trying SSF, the Saturn emu, and a disc image?

Create an INI file in the mamewah/config/mame/games folder with the name of the rom. It will fill in the info for you, then edit it to point at the emu you wish to use.

Thanks :) I'll try this out when I get home tonight .. I did try out the Saturn emu, but the game seemed just as choppy as the MAME version I'm running now.
-
yeah, I've never tried the saturn emu since I own a Saturn, so I didn't know how good or bad it was.

It runs like butter on my e8400. Have you tweaked with your display settings to get a bit more horsepower out of your mame. I know there are tons of tips that I have used in the 4ghz mame thread.

... um, no. What settings should I adjust, and where?
BTW, I tried to have MAMEwah generate a custom .ini, as described by Ginsu Victim, but no luck. The newly created ini stays blank .. thanks for your replys .. I'll keep at it :)

Hmm, maybe that isn't one of the things that autofills. I have several games with INIs at home, but I've been copying, pasting, then editing them.
The wiki has the info you need.

Thank you again .. I'm closer, but even after reading the wiki like 10 times, i just don't understand ???
I have MAME 0.128, and have been playing this game from the command prompt to test it out (MUCH better in this version), but I don't know what to type in the "rsgun.ini" file ...
My path would be c:\mame128\mame rsgun .. I think .. i typed this in the ini, but it still loads the mame 0.110 version.
-
There should be a folder called GAMES in the mame folder. Place your INI in there.
pre_emulator_app_commandlines [nothing required here, unless you load U360 maps, etc]
emulator_commandline c:\mame128\mame.exe rsgun {nodosbox}{safelaunch}
post_emulator_app_commandlines [load u360 map, etc on exit]
When I'm able to look at my own INIs at home, I can give you a better answer.

I do think you may be confusing the guy. The MAME folder Ginsu is talking about is the MAME folder in the MAMEWAH/CONFIG folder NOT the MAME folder where MAME itself resides.
-
Well, to quote an earlier post of mine
Create an INI file in the mamewah/config/mame/games folder with the name of the rom.
-
You can basically just make the INI include what is under the Execution Settings header.
I made a custom Mamewah recently for a video game tournament where I wanted some Atari 2600 games in with some NES games all in one list. So for each Atari game I made a custom ini.
So my directory structure was like this:
C:\VGT2008\Mamewah\config\skills
This had the normal ini, layout file, background image etc...
C:\VGT2008\Mamewah\config\skills\game
this had (among others) dragster.ini
### dragster.ini (mamewah v1.62) ###
### Execution Settings ###
pre_emulator_app_commandlines
emulator_commandline [emurootpath]\Stella-1.4.1\stella.exe "[emurootpath]\stella-1.4.1\roms\[name].bin"{dosbox}{safelaunch}
post_emulator_app_commandlines
So by default, the games will run in the nes emulator, then if theres an INI file in the game subdirectory with the same name as the rom file selected, it would execute what is written there, in this case, stella, and the path to the atari rom.
Hope that helps.

Thank you all SOOO much for your help ... I'll have to try this late tonight after work ... I'm understanding where to put the ini, just need to get the syntax just right :)

JOY!
Fix: I upgraded to MAMEwah 1.63, and all is well :D Thanks again for all the help :notworthy:

Is RS running well for you?

Is RS running well for you?
Oh .. it's running better .. I can now hear the sounds of the missles and explosions, but it's still a little laggy, and the music stutters a bit, but it's MUCH more playable, thanks :)
I may have to bite the bullet and drop a dual-core CPU in my machine .. :afro:

Dude, over the last few days, I downloaded 13.5 GB worth of games from that site! I'm about to start going through all of them and seeing which ones work well on my cab. (Blue Wish Resurrection is awesome!)

And....that site is now bookmarked. Thanks!

No problem. Lots of goodies to be found there. Some decent fighting games, as well.
