Title: Newbie help with encoders
Post by: KapnKerfuffle on November 18, 2008, 07:35:16 am
Hi all, I could really use some help with choosing the right encoder(s) for these controls.  I'm want to use Happ rotary optical joysticks because I want to play Ikari Warrior type games.  I've seen the thread about the pros and cons of optical versus mechanical and I thought optical would be a good overall choice.  Here are the controls I would like to go with.

2 Happ Optical Rotary
2 sets of 7 player buttons
Exit, Reset, 1P, 2P, 1P COIN, 2P COIN, PAUSE, MENU
Trackball + 2 mouse buttons
Spinner
4 way joystick

What would I need to use to hook up all these controls?  Thanks in advance.

What about the rotaries, the trackball and spinner ?

Yep, the rotary on the joystick is my concern.

I do like the I-Pac.  It seems like it will cover my joystick directions and all my player button, plus two admin buttons if I'm thinking right.

But that leaves my 2 rotaries, spinner, trackball, and 4-way, plus some admin and mouse buttons.

If I got an Opti-pac with my I-Pac, would I be covered then?  Can two encoders be used at once?  That might be dumb question but I'm a nooblet so I'll throw it out there.   :dunno

Thanks for the replies.

What about Ultimarc's U-HID?  That should handle most of that.

Depends. ;D

The U-HID will do it, but might be more than you need.

Does the TBs come with PC USB boards, or arcade broads?  The spinner?  If all three have USB boards, you can use the minipac instead.

Other option is ipac + optipac.  The optipac can handle 8 mice axes inputs (it outputs 4, as 2 mice each with 2 axes).
