I am in the middle of converting an Atari cocktail table to a MAME cab. I wanted to put a 16" monitor in it. I can hang it no problem but I wanted to know if it will do any harm long term to the monitor or if it should be OK. Any help is appreciated.

Bueller.....Bueller....... No one on this board has mounted a PC monitor in a cocktail table? Any help would be appreciated.

PC monitor, arcade monitor, television set ..... what's the difference ?
Not much ...... so yes, it's OK as long as everything is secure.

I mounted an old 19 inch in a PacMan cocktail. I found that as soon as you flip the monitor on it's back the gauss effect becomes horrible. The earth's magnetic pole causes this. However, you can degauss it when it gets to its final location and many say that over time it clears up completely. I'm still in the build stage, so I still have the hinge open and my cab is not in its final location, therefore I don't know if the clearing up bit is true.
I will say this...most CRT monitors have built-in degauss coils. You might make sure this one does. Even if it does you may have to fork out for a dedicated degauss (according to some). Wish I could help more, but as I say I'm not the final stage of the build. Try lying it on its back and test it out.

19" in mine too, no problems. After you've got it set up where it's going to live, degaussing shouldn't be a problem unless you bring a magnet nearby, or you move the screen while it's switched on. Mine rotates so that's every time it's in use, but I just cut the power to the screen for a second, it auto-degausses and I'm away.
Obviously you're happy with how the mounting itself will function, and no parts will be under long-term stress from the weight of the tube. Can't go wrong!
