Hallo! Building my own arcade case, 4-player and all so I can play Turtles and Simpsons and all those. I want to use tokens, but the HAPP 4-player door comes with quarter mechs. I'd hate to have to trash four mechs and spend $60 on different ones just to take a different coin, so does anyone know if the quarter mechs can be tweaked to accept tokens instead?
I saw a thread about hacking a cardboard "universal" coin acceptor - that's not really what I want to do. I'd much rather use authentic parts. After all, it's the coin-dropping feeling I'm going for. :)

buy yourself just the door itself and buy the token mechanisms separately. they are availible from happ.

Not aware that Happ will trade out the mechs or sell the coin door itself, but I'll call. The only places I know of so far are Happ and that "Video Connection" place from the FAQ. Any other suggestions? Kinda new in this scene. :)
If anyone knows if the quarter mechs can be adjusted, this is by far the best solution! Anyone?

No. The mechs are made for a specific denomination, and can't easily be changed. I remember a huge thread on an arcade messageboard where this guy was just sure he could turn all his mechs into token mechs somehow, but he couldn't.
You should be able to order a 4-player door with token mechs from someone. Also, mechs are the kind of thing that tend to stack up when you collect games, someone local may have some token mechs for you (i have some, but I only have two of them).

If you don't want tokens specifically, but you don't want just quarters...
hack the coin mech.
Take out most of the parts, and hack it (I used straws... worked great) so that the coins ALWAYS fall down the right location. Now ALL coins work in mine.
So my cab is now a big piggie bank!
Just another option.

i couldn't figure out how you did it with straws Lilwolf, so I just hacked mine with a pair of pliers. I bent the chute that throws all the non-quarter coins out a little, now all the bad coins fall straight into where the quarters fall and into the coin box. After I hook up the coin switches I'll need to tweak the trip wire, but they all actuate it at least a little.
Do you have a website w/pics on how you did your hack?
Thanks,
BillyJack

Yeah, I'd be interested in converting my quarter only mechs into "just about any denomination" mechs too! While I don't mind them being quarter only....... I do like the idea of the big piggy bank!
But I'm not sure I want to have to "bend" anything tho..... ever seen a coin mech explode? It'd prolly happen if I took a pair of pliers to it....... ;)
Straws....... that I can handle...... I can shoot the paper wrapping from a straw and hit a bullseye at 50 yards.......
