Title: Obama emoticon.
Post by: WunderCade on November 16, 2008, 04:24:11 am
I am sure there are a lot of people on the board not caught up in the Obama cult. Some 56 Million people voted for McCain.

Is there any way to have the Obama emoticon removed if you don't appreciate having to stare at it every time you click reply? I thought politics had it own place here. For those of us who enjoy BYOAC free from partisan politics, why shove Obama in everyone's face? At least hide him under the [more] button for God's sake.

This is your president! If you don't want an elected official go for a  :burgerking: (or a queen as is the case in The Netherlands). You could go for a "democratic" model like in Singapore where the opposition consists of two people. If you vote for them, you won't get government support for anything. They literally say "If you don't support us, we won't support you"

Still, none of that explains to need for partisan politics on an arcade forum. Where's the McCain emoticon if you're gonna be considerate of all byoac members?

(BTW: Please don't add a McCain emot, I was just making the point. McCain would be equally as annoying and out of place.)

Dude, you need a chill out. It’s just a joke. A riposte to years of “Bush Won” type idiocy from people like Dartful.

Having said that, maybe we should have a Sarah Palin emoticon (wearing a bikini and holding a gun of course) just for balance.  ;)

Because McCain is but a lowly senator while Obama is the POTUS!! (or will be)

I used to know a guy from Singapore and I could never get my head around this.

Surely there must be some people in the country with the balls to vote against the government.

I could sort of understand it if voters faced paying a personal price for their act of rebellion. But my understanding is that voting is still anonymous so the worst the government can do is collectively punish an entire voting district if too many people within the district vote against them. As far as I’m concerned that’s a price well worth paying in order to give Lee Quan Yew (or whoever’s is charge these days) the finger.

Weird.

My point still stands. Where was the Dubya emot the last 8 years? Bottom line is I'm glad there wasn't one for Dubya either on the same principle.

I wasn't for Obama, but I have no problem with the emoticon. I think it's pretty funny, in a Stepin Fetchit kinda way.  :gobama

Write this down - I agree with Wunder, based solely on the intent of keeping politics sequestered in P&R. Obama icon moved to the pop up form.

Where do we draw the line?  Should these two be removed because of the religious connotations?

Fair 'nuff.  Let's see some proof though.... ballpoint pen, Sharpie, crayon, #2 pencil or something more esoteric?  Let's see that line!  Please.    ;)

Looks like Obama has been made a Mr Hanky anyway... I guess Wunder is so taken with Obama he can't stand to see him made look like a piece of dancing poo.

Wunder, it's okay.  Your hero will survive.

Ahh....Chad....nice to see you still have political views. It's the conservative in me....I hate change. If we allow a dancing Obama, where does it end? BYOAC would descend into a cesspool of liberal, immoral America-haters. I couldn't allow that to happen.

Holy crap Wunder. You have issues.

Moving it to the pop-up version is just fine.

I do? You must not have caught the sarcasm involved. I guess I don't do "sarcasm" well, eh.  ;)

Agreed.  :)

Perhaps we need a "SARCASM" emoticon.  Something like these:

The winky works fine, but when it doesn't appear until a persons 8th or so post into a thread, it is a fair assumption there isn't much sarcasm going on.

Yeah, I prefer a smirk. Always thought BYOAC needed a smirk emot.

Oh...OK...we're talking past each other here, my sarcasm was with the "liberal America-hating" comment. I thought that was what you were referring to.

Everything before that was semi-serious.

I didn't sort your views out one way or the other. I said it's nice to see you still have them - a reference to your AWOL status over in P'n'R.

P&R sucks, which is why ALOT of people chose not to opt in. The mere fact you drug it out here is part of why I am irritated. I got a bit of a chuckle out of the Emoticon, but it really isn't worth getting worked up over.

My political views are heavily slanted in favor of the AntiDumbass party.

So far it pretty much has only one member.

I tried, but when they saw that I was sponsored by the letter F and the number 6, I think it broke the deal.

Ironic you chose to intrepret it that way. The very reason I pointed out that the emot should go was indeed NOT to drag P'n'R into the other forums, and apparently someone agreed. The emot was moved.

I'm not worked up, it was just a simple point.

There are. You can recognise the neighbourhoods that support the opposition. They are rundown without elevators because the government owns all the (public) housing and won't upgrade unless you support them. The people that have the balls to try and do something get sued for millions. You can't run for public office if you're bankrupt. Aside from that nobody cares because frankly, the Lees did okay if you compare this place with the surrounding countries. Nice and neat and you won't need any oppression.
