More Info (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=86521.msg909194#msg909194) ;D

Is this a serious question? Or are you introducing a new product that you plan to carry? :o
-
Randy, don't tease us like that! We need info! ;)
-
Hopefully not so much that I can't buy one....
-
It looks like a Tron stick only the dimensions are off.... :dunno
;D
-
Very nice. Any plans for a red one?
-
Make a chrome one for my arcade ;D
-
Very nice. Any plans for a red one?
Make a pink one with vibrating function.... no wait <looks around> wrong forum :afro:
Erm what he said, make a Red one
-
I'd buy that for a dollar
-
$1.22 and half a pack of "Vel-A-Mints".
-
I'll go a buck fifty and most of a Reese's Peanut Butter cup ...
That's a thing of beauty!
:applaud:

Hint: right click on image, click properties, pay attention to the address of image. ;D
One of these days I will get a tron, and it is nice to know there will be a high quality repro handle available by then.
-
ONE MILLION DOLLARS!
-
Very Nice ;D Hope not too expensive, I need 4 of them. :)
Can we get a side of UV reactive concave buttons as well ? :-)
-
Looks worthless
Mail it to me and I will get rid of it for ya >:D

Yes I would be interested. Cost? I would Pay $20 each.
I would be cool also if you made Star Wars Yokes.
I do believe there is a market for them. ;D
BTW
Have you discontinued the Keywiz QD?
-
Man. I thought my cab was complete. A tron stick would look nice!! Have no idea how to price it.
I thought the original sticks were a 4/8 way hybrid. Playing tron on my cab the light cycles just don't work right. Not sure how you would address this however but I am looking forward to seeing the final product ...

As far as I'm concerned this is no longer an issue with MAME's joystick mapping function and headkaze's mapping utility:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=86315.0
The lightcycle zig-zag is a thing of the past with that map and an analog joystick.
To answer Randy's question, it would be worth double if it came with a kit to attach to a U360, including wiring. >:D
-
I say $50
-
Comes with trigger, spring, and internal switch? Micro or leaf?
2nd button/switch option for Dot shield on front face?
A Pic unlit would be nice too :)
-
So this is the repro unit he's been hinting at.
-
Just the 2 shells?
$40 tops. (says the guy who paid $100 for a small plexiglass repro control panel!) ;D
-
I'd say $30.
And yes, make a Star Wars yoke and the circle will be complete.
-
IIRC, Specialty Plastics was selling them most recently for $60 shipped, but their website has once again vanished (this time due to AOL closing down the hosting service).
-
I would say cost of manufacture plus 40% margin plus shipping. Unless that comes out to be insanely expensive...or cheap.
Then again...I'm in the biotech industry. :)
What my suggestion would be to have the handle alone plus accessories. Have the custom accessories (i.e. a joystick ready to have the handle attached) at a higher margin than the handle.
...ok...I think maybe I'm getting into this too much. :)
-
Ok, I'll come clean now. I already had a number in mind ;D
Every once in a while I like to do something that doesn't make the best business sense, but that I know will fill a longtime void in the community. It cost a bundle to do this, but it's my way of showing our appreciation to all the folks who spend their arcade dollars at GGG.
For those who haven't figured this out already, it's a Tron joystick shell. Not a copy, reproduction or replica. It's the real deal. The actual materials and injection molds were used. The original color chip was uncovered, meticulously matched and, as you can see, it glows like crazy next to a black light. This is the first time anyone has seen a part like this fresh from production since 1982.
As I want everyone who wants one to be able to afford one, especially in the current economic climate, the price will only be $24.95. That will include the two shell halves, the red trigger (which glows bright reddish orange under UV, BTW) and the one top screw. I will continue to work on accessories for this, which will include a switch assembly (Microleaf™ based), faceplates, mounting hardware, etc. Some parts will come quicker than others.
These will be on the store and available for order in a few days. Keep in mind that they are a niche item and that I have a limited number of them. I'll have another production run made if there is high demand, but that's not usually the case with this kind of part.
Thanks once again to all of GGG's customers. I enjoy being able to do these kinds of things and there's no way it would have been possible without your continuing support.

Holy ---fudgesicle---, my balls just dropped. You got your hands on the original injection molds? I though they were destroyed yonkers ago. And at $25 bucks.... Guess the kids are going to have to go without Christmas presents this year.
-
the price will only be $24.95
Whoa. Beats the heck out of other Tron shell prices I've seen out there. Very nice, and it comes just as I'm about to place an order, anyway!
-
Thanks Randy!
-
Wow!
Care to share the story of how in Sam Hill this came about?
-
I'll be buying a few THOUSAND of these :)
Do we have any idea, set in stone as of now that is, what joystick models these grips will be made to fit?
-
I checked the site and hope it goes up on the front page. I might have to put that spinner on hold and buy one of these.
so nice. :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:
thanks Randy T

Oh wait brain fart :banghead:
I need the spinner to play Tron.
wow I guess SavannahLion was right.
Christmas coal for everyone on my holiday list

Is this the line? Count me in for one please. :applaud:

Speaking of accessories, are you still working on integrating this into a 49-way? I have a 49-way waiting for one of these...
-
Count me in, too!
If anyone else wants one in the UK, maybe we can all order together and save shipping...
-
Thanks for all of the positive comments.
Speaking of accessories, are you still working on integrating this into a 49-way? I have a 49-way waiting for one of these...
The 49-way will be a great choice for these as locking them (i.e. preventing them from twisting, or at least making it very difficult) will be easier to accomplish than with any other stick...with the right stick configuration, of course. Not to mention the fact that the GP-Wiz49 already has the Tron functionality built into the 4-way mode. So yes, it will be something I will be working on.

Wow. This was unexpected. Count me in. :notworthy:

Next you are going to tell us you are making a joystick for the 720 game.
It just isn't the same playing that game with a normal joy stick.
not get off the subject of Tron but look at this guys mad stills at 720

I'm probably going to get in on this too... even though I have no immediate plans to build/restore a Tron cab - it's on the list though! Nice work Randy!
-
Very nice work. Your contributions to the community are appreciated!
-
I was happy with my black handle for my tron stick, and figured I'd pass on this (as cool as this is) because I figured you'd sell it for like $50 at least (and rightly so). But for $25 there's no way I can pass up on this! Incredible!
BTW, I don't know how much demand there is (not something I need), but are you thinking of doing the Satan's Hollow red handle while you're at it? I assume it's exactly the same except for the color?
-
I'll be in for two. That looks crazy good.
-
Too bad Radish told the klov crowd about these. We could have bought them all up and sold them to klov guys for 300% markup. >:D
-
Very nice. I'll be grabbing a couple of these.
-
Wow, I'm sold! Would love to hear more of the story behind obtaining the original bits, how this project came to be, etc.

nice one randy, the price is unbelievably decent
:applaud: :applaud: :applaud:
-
Great Zeus's Beard!!!!
I am in for 2 for sure......not only will I rock Tron with these babies, but Assault, Xybots (sp?), and Zenophobe will start getting play count on my mame box for sure!
Randy..you are a gentleman and a scholar....thanks for one hell of a contribution.

Yeah, the story behind this is something I'd love to hear more about.

when can we get em?

Count me in for this please Jimbo - please PM me (or whatever) when you come to order.
Randy - this is truly fantastic news! Congratulations sir ... HOW did you get the original moulds?? :notworthy:
Now then ... anyone want to give me a hand wiring it up to a Magstick Plus?? Please.....?? :dizzy:
-
I still have two GP-Wiz 49 encoders that I bought years ago when 1UP was going to make sticks for 49-way joysticks. Randy, I hope you come up with a joystick for these to fit on.
-
Are these crystal translucent exactly as the originals? Or have these been altered to be
frosted? (I hope they are not frosted)
-
Are you suggesting you used the original molds to make this stick?
Perhaps I am mis-reading?
Yours looks great, but not exact. Notice the back side of the stick vs an original:

Maybe a stupid question but what is this good for other than Tron, game wise?
It's an awesome color! Reminds of an popsicle.

LOL!
I mean is this a good double for a flight stick or?
-
Maybe a stupid question but what is this good for other than Tron, game wise?
It's an awesome color! Reminds of an popsicle.
Well, the stick design itself is good for a bunch of games... Tron, DoT, Satans Hollow, Gorf, some of the laser disc games, etc etc. But only the Tron games used the clear blue one like that. SH was red, and the others were black.
-
If this is just the shell (more or less) 4 sale, what goes inside?
-
It also swaps onto a very nice Happ trigger joystick. In fact that is likely what a lot of people would have to use it with.
-
If this is just the shell (more or less) 4 sale, what goes inside?
If you have to ask, then this isn't for you.
-
If you have to ask, then this isn't for you.
But maybe the next casting project is... just sayin'...
...maybe this person needs some time on the casting couch.
-
Twenty-five bucks?? I have a complete flight stick. Yet, for that price, just to have, it's worth it. Of course, I don't have the fixation regarding the handle color and game it came on. This stick handle is like any other bling to me. So I may end up using it on the stick unit I have.
Hey, I notice in the 'new products' section over there a place holder product icon was put up over two months ago. Guess no one's been paying attention.
-
If this is just the shell (more or less) 4 sale, what goes inside?
No one seems to want to answer our question. This helped me....

I've got a NOS Happ heavy duty 8-way trigger (with leaf switches) on my cp. It's also been retrofitted with the Tron rubber restrictor plate. So it would seem like replacing the shell with Randy's would be a no-brainer. Problem is, what do I do with the thumb buttons - which are useful for other games. I could leave them, but the black button insert won't match the blue. Hmmm.
-
Sweet ;D
Excellent Job Randy. Im sold. Please reserve 4 for me.
Whats great about these types of Handles is that you can use either
Left or Right hand on them. Many other analog handles are limited to
fitting one hand or the other.
For me, I have a planned set up with 4 trigger sticks. 2 analogs, and 2 tron digitals.
This can support either:
4 players digital (single joy each)
2 players digital (dual joy tank games) (analogs can work 'ok' as digitals)
1 player dual analogs
1 player dual digitals
2 players multi (1 digital, 1 analog each)
Without a stick which can not be grasped from either hand, that setup wouldnt be
possible.
Can we also get a Discs of Tron spinner knob made the same way? Maybe a nice translucent UV reactive reddish-orange.. or maybe a nice UV greenish-blue (more green with a touch of blue) ?

VisitorQ,
These go on Happs style Heavy duty arcade Trigger Sticks. You can search
ebay for "Tron Control" , control panel, trigger stick..etc.. and should be able
to see what you are looking for.
The handles themselves should fit on almost any type of long handle arcade stick...
including the Happs analog sticks. I suspect that the original black handles were
made to match mach3.
They are very comfortable and can be used on digital or analog games, and
can be used with either left or right hand. Additional buttons can be mounted to
the front face plate - which isnt included yet. (but shouldnt be hard to make your own
really. Just the problem with finding nice easy pushable buttons like the DOT
originals, or the cone like buttons used on other similar joys. Many buttons that
small are very hard to press, thus fast repeated shooting isnt possible)
The handles also do not come with the trigger switch yet.
You could always grab such a used stick off ebay, and replace the handles with
these. That is what a lot of people here are probably planning. Ive already got
the handles, switches and buttons... but rather want the Blue handles instead
of the solid black handles.

Tron had a black insert, albeit with graphics.
-
This is excellent and I'm assuming some kind of "all in one" solution will be available at some point down the road? ("all in one" meaning perhaps a USB solution that has everything included, all you have to do is plug it in). Once that happens, I'll order it for sure!

Looks like this thing drew a lot of new visitors to Randy's site. I'm getting a 403 on it now !

If there is a demand and who doesn't like money? I'm sure he will make more...
-
Did you read his initial post?
-
Did you read his initial post?
I did.
Selling out in a 2 week span does not = "high demand"? :dunno
-
It "not making good business sense" is the key part you want to take from his post. He's doing it as a solid for the community, not to make money.
-
Anyway you slice it he is not losing money so whats the point? :dunno
Why make this into something it's not?
I'm glad he made these, a lot of people are. Heck I may just buy one to have it. ;D
I'm sure he will sell out of them and I am sure like he said, he will make more if the demand is there. It seems to me like there is enough for at least one more run.
-
It "not making good business sense" is the key part you want to take from his post. He's doing it as a solid for the community, not to make money.
I oversee the manufacturing of dozens of plastics parts for products my employer makes. After the extremely high cost of tooling, the actual cost of the parts is relatively low, especially at higher volumes. It doesn't make sense to pay to have only 100 made when there is most likely a big price break a few hundred pieces higher. Of course this all goes out the window if someone like Randy, who is doing this outside of his regular job, can't or won't put up the capital needed for the higher quantities.
Randy has yet to share the story as to how he got his hands on the original molds. There may be some sort of lease agreement or something, who knows. Either way, this is very exciting. I visited the prints for my machine last night to try and come up with a way to incorporate one on my new panel.
-
The print is rather large, 3" or so I think.
-
It "not making good business sense" is the key part you want to take from his post. He's doing it as a solid for the community, not to make money.

Of course this all goes out the window if someone like Randy, who is doing this outside of his regular job, can't or won't put up the capital needed for the higher quantities.
That is certainly true in the case of your employer, who has already ponied up the cash for the molds, owns them "lock stock and barrel" and now needs only to amortize the tooling costs over the quantity of parts produced. But the scenario really doesn't apply in a situation like this one. There are at least three other entities who needed to have their requirements met in one way or another for this to happen. In the end, this means that there is a very definite, and immediate ceiling to the economy one can expect to enjoy, regardless of the quantities purchased.
As for not losing money on the project, that jury is still very much "out". You can't do things like this in a small way, so one has to weigh their chances of recovery very carefully. I hope to break even on the project and have a small surplus of parts afterward. However, an item like this one will saturate this tiny market very quickly, especially at the low price point required to get them into folks hands in such a trying economic climate. So at the "end of the day", I may end up with a very cool, but very costly pile of UV reactive blue plastic 8)
But as I stated, I knew all of this "going in" and the primary objective was to give something back by filling a void and not to establish a long-term, profitable product line. If it ends up that way, then everyone wins and that means other projects like this one will have a better chance of becoming reality. But if not, the community just got an early Christmas present
RandyT
-
Well I certainly think you hit a good price point. Like I said, I may just buy one to have on hand incase I ever need it.
-
I did :)
-
Well I certainly think you hit a good price point.
It is certainly an *attractive* price point -- less than half of what they have been offered for previously (for what I understand was a lesser product)
I would like to buy a couple of these, but am currently overextended on project-related spending (a couple of long-sought items became available) and we're leading into to Christmas and jrok just released his MultiWilliams board and I already have a beautiful Tron stick ... and ...
If, however, there are any left when I place my order for a pair of TT2 spinners in a month or two, I will definitely pick up a couple -- somebody (maybe me) will want them sometime.
If there aren't any left at that point, it was still a nice thing for Randy to do.
:applaud:
-
Well I for one hope you make a second production run. I can't buy for the next three weeks (not for lack of funds, but just because I'll be out of town), but when I get back I would very much like to get 3 to 4 of those (even if the next run has a higher cost). So please keep some inventory!
And please restock your electric ice pushbuttons too ;D
-
I got mine, 2 of them... now I just have to hunt down a control panel to put them on so I seem like less of a dork...
Thanks RandyT.
-
Are you kidding me? I plan on using mine to film a sequel: Dick in a box II: Dick in an Arcade Game.
-
Are you kidding me? I plan on using mine to film a sequel: Dick in a box II: Dick in an Arcade Game.
i was thinking Dick in a box 2: Dick in a stick ;)
-
Step one.....cut a hole in a Tron...
-
Step two: stick your junk in that tron
Step three: go to the ER because you forgot to ground your CP.
-
step 4: explain how you were fixing your arcade machine naked cos it was... hot, yeah thats it , i was hot thats why i was naked, and you just slipped and happened to end up in that hole like that. i know, it does sound far fetched, but thats how it happened, officer.
-
I can just see some pron site buying these up and making a special edition sex toy for arcade nerds. I would venture a guess that nerds make up a large part of the customer base anyways.
-
Randy,
I have sent you a PM.
-
Well I cracked and ordered it :). I'll have to figure out a solution on what else to order to make this a useable solution for my CP but boy oh boy does it ever look nice!
-
Not that this really matters but I am curious... Randy said he may not make another run of these but he never did say how many were produced so far.
Last night when I looked at his site there were only less than 10 left and now when I checked there were more than 20. ???
LOL! Maybe he did have 1000 made and he is holding out on us?
Again... Not that this matters as I am sure everyone would rather have more than enough to go around but it does make me wonder as to how many he really has for people like me who are only looking for keep sake value at this point.
hehehehe With all that said, I ordered on. ;)
-
OMG!! Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you
:notworthy: :notworthy:
Already ordered mine. I had an original I purchased from Peter Hirchsberg, but man did I need a extra one.
Thank you Randy!!
Awesome job!
-
LOL! Maybe he did have 1000 made and he is holding out on us?
Hehe, even I'm not that crazy.
The numbers shown on the store for this item reflect what we have packaged up as a set from the main boxes and have sitting on the shelf waiting to be shipped. As for the total numbers....suffice it to say that they are nearing "half gone" status after only a few days of becoming available.
And you are very welcome, Patent Doc. Thanks everyone for the orders. :)
RandyT
-
RandyT, an mumble'ngs there about tossing a little UV reactive red into the molds?
-
Woohoo! ;D
Got my Sticks today! I know Im fairly close by... but the shipping time was
amazing.
You guys cant believe how Awesome these things are!
I smiled ear to ear as I ripped open the box basing in the glow of the heavenly
contents! Its like having a little piece of Arcade History in your hands.
I dont want to put them down... Just keep staring at them, admiring their
crystal goodness. Holding it assembled, it just feels so damn perfect. No other
flight-type-stick feels this good in your hands.
I even grabbed a blacklight to test the glow... and it lit up like it was on fire.
Simply beautiful.
If you are a fan of Tron/Disc of Tron.. even if you never intend to make a Tron
panel... get one of these and make an artistic display box for it! :)
:applaud: :applaud: :applaud: Many thanks to Randy for getting these made. :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:
Edit: I forgot to mention, that sadly, happs analog sticks have a different
mounting hole spacing. Nothing a drill and thread tapper cant fix however :)

Randy,
First time customer, just ordered a pair (and other items). The price is very fair and I wanted to reward you with business for your contribution to the community. Your efforts are appreciated. :notworthy:
-
Well this shell fit inplace of the one here on this stick?
http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/joysticks_amusement.htm
Not sure I understand the "mounting hole spacing" comment.
-
VisitorQ,
It will fit on:

but not
http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/95017200.htm
(http://www.happcontrols.com/images/90/95017200.jpg)
There are two holes in the handles, and two holes on the joystick shaft.
The holes have to align so that you can screw the handle to the shaft.
The analog joystick shafts have their 2 holes drilled in different places...
so the Tron handles will not be able to screw onto the analog
shaft unless you drill and 'tap' a new hole in the joystick shaft.
I think most people are using digital sticks, or the original tron stick,
so do not have to worry about this anyways.
I will be using the handles on Analogs and Digitals so will have to drill a
few holes on my analog sticks shafts. It shouldnt be to difficult to do.
-
I posted the wrong link, I meant will it fit this one here?
http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/95070100.htm
-
Im sure it would. Thats the same handle as the Tron handle.. just in
black color. Sorry, I didnt notice that stick before. I have a different analog stick...
(the pic I posted).
-
But what about this one (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=86664.msg910949#msg910949)?
Certainly the design is more efficient, as well as more attractive, hardware-wise. In any case, the only issue I can see is the bottom holding together, as the Tron has no underneath mounting, and the shaft of this stick isn't long enough for both screws. I guess one would do. Also, some modification of the new handles would be required if one wanted to populate it with the dual thumb buttons from this one.

Ummon,
Thats basically the same handle. The differences are the trigger button
type (inferior to the tron trigger), and the extra buttons on the front.
The extra buttons can easily be added to the front plate of the Tron stick.
You can see one such button on the Disc's of Tron joystick. However,
Discs of Trons frontal button is much better than those Mach3 frontal
buttons. Mach 3s buttons are much harder to push and not as responsive and
nice feeling.
As for the mounting holes, I believe the Mach3 stick has the same hole
mounts as the Tron handles.
"No underneath mounting" ??? What are you talking about?! The tron handles have 2 screw holes on the main shaft, and one screw at the
very top which screws the two halves together. The thing does not
have a problem with staying on a shaft.

Got mine in today. WOW! Phenomenal job, Randy. Now all I need now is the rest of the cabinet!
-
Mine today too and they are every bit the awesome. Much love to Randy.
-
Didn't come today either... People in California have already gotten there's, I'm in TN and nothing.
Randy, if I were you guys I'd double check with the numbnuts at the post office in Rochester, because according to them they did even leave the post office till last night.
Once again, NOT GGG's fault... I just really hate USPS in general. Had them lose a lot of stuff I shipped back to the States when I was stationed over in Japan. I don't trust USPS... at all...

This is a rare occurrence. Obviously they misplaced or miscategorized the package and then set it straight. It's not just the USPS that has these issues either. I've had items sent to me through both FedEx and UPS get misdirected half way across the country. Unfortunately, it happens.
For the record, we have shipped thousands of packages through the USPS and have had only *1* package get lost domestically. And that one was probably stolen from the doorstep. Even though the tracking isn't the greatest at times, the reliability, speed and economics of the USPS makes it the best deal going.
RandyT
-
Just to clarify ... a package hasn't yet arrived that was sent in the past week ?
*gasp*
As Randy says, USPS is the best deal going ... and I am in Canada. I've never had USPS (or Canada Post, who they hand off to) lose a package, while I have lost (or had seriously delayed) packages with Fedex and UPS.
-
Love the new handle, beautiful work!

Live in Canada, + 1 for USPS, they don't ding me with ridiculous brokerage fees like FedEx/UPS (but that's another story all together!).
-
I want to purchase one of these soon, before they run out. But you mentioned that accessories are coming, including the switch assembly and mounting hardware. Since I don't have a joystick to put this on (I plan on putting it on an 8-way of some sort), would I be best waiting for you to make these accessories available before buying? Or is it looking like they will run out soon, so I better place my order now, and another for the rest?

No no no, no worries RandyT. I know it isn't you guys' fault. I just have the worst luck with items getting shipped to me, even if they are from me. I've had the USPS lose 2 pretty expensive packages, with insurance... When I went to the post office to inquire about them when I got back to the States, they told me that they would have no records of the items shipped... then when I came back after a couple of days of searching for my copy on the invoices, they told me that they couldn't honor the insurance part of the shipment because, well they gave me two reasons... 1 was because there was no way to show the items where damaged in shipment (and I thought the fact that they NEVER ARRIVED would be good enough) and the other reason was because it took me over a month (never heard of that one before) to file for the insurance... because I was in the military overseas wasn't apparently a good enough reason... lol Oh well, I'm over it... for the most part.
I know why you use USPS, and I don't blame you. I used them because that 8.99 flat rate box is an INCREDIBLE deal as is their standard shipping rate, that's why I used them (that and the fact that USPS was the only place on base to mail packages from). But their networking and tracking abilities leaves something to be desired. To say the least.
ONCE AGAIN, NOT GGG OR RANDYT'S FAULT. I'm sure that since the post office finally found my package propping the back door open, it'll get here quickly and will be well worth the minimal wait. :)
I just get paranoid about USPS because of the previous experiences dealing with them. So, I vented...

I was wondering the same. I was going to wait until after December or even after the first of the year to order mine. But seeing as how they're already, "half gone," I don't think waiting is in anyones best interest. Now where did I put my credit card?

"No underneath mounting" ??? What are you talking about?! The tron handles have 2 screw holes on the main shaft, and one screw at the

have a problem with staying on a shaft.
I'll explain. While these are essentially the same mold, the Tron has two screws that go through the handle halves, and one at the top of them, with a little trough molded in each to accomodate it. In contrast, on mine there are interior fasteners at the top end of it, and a screw underneath the outer ring of each handle half. This means that there is no hardware visible, nor any strange holes in the form of the handle. This is kinda similar to the 'carriage bolts' discussion on CPs, of which I'm on the 'don't like 'em' side.
Certainly the Tron design is more robust, particularly given the screws go through the metal shaft - though I question the need for such, although it's not a relevant question with respect to the re-pro-ing of this project. What is relevant is that at least a minor modding of the shaft of mine would be required to accommodate the Tron handle.
-
I broke down and ordered them. I would have rather waited until, at least, the first of the year but I don't want to be one of those poor sobs that wait too long and find I'll have to pay double or triple that price on eBay. I was also tempted to order the rest of my supplies but my cabinet isn't even started yet and I just incurred another, unrelated, project that needs to be tended to first.

Yeah, me too - just now! Better spend a couple extra bucks on shipping for another order later than miss out on this bad boy.

Does anyone know if there are Black Light Leds which could be put in the handle to illuminate it?
I found this on the net but have no idea if it would work, be too/not powerful or even how to hook it up (I'm no led expert):
http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/SFV/32481/vpid/4481088/vpcsid/0/rid/127275 (http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/SFV/32481/vpid/4481088/vpcsid/0/rid/127275)
But it seems like some kind of black light led accessory would be appropriate for this Tron handle and make it that much cooler! 8),
I have no other idea other than a black light led on how to get a regular blacklight to light up the CP and still be put in an obscure area on an non Tron dedicated cab.
Someone with led knowledge please chime in!

Here's the next installment as promised.... ;D
(http://www.groovygamegear.com/Store_Images/trigsw1.jpg)..(http://www.groovygamegear.com/Store_Images/trigsw2.jpg)
May or may not work with an original stick assembly. It would be nice if it did, but that wasn't the main objective. Definitely gets the job done without the complication and cost of the larger original assembly. Has the added benefit of leaving the top portion of the stick completely open for more switches, lights, whatever.
Should be on the store before the weekend is done.

VERY NICE Randy! :notworthy:
Do you plan on making anything else for it? A single or duel upper button module with insert?
Thanks again for your work on this and all you do for the hobby.

Is that a potential single run item too? Or can we wait a bit to see what is coming next and pick from the accessories then?

I make these smaller parts in my own shop, so consider them unlimited in supply (unless I get hit by a bus).
I'll be working on the back plates next, and yes, there will be a version with button switches.

I think Randy should be given the Arcade's version of the Nobel prize!
Just a request if you don't mind considering it...
These seem to be selling very well, would you consider another run for after the Christmas season? Right now I'm in gift mode for my kids and grand kids and this time of the year I never buy anything for myself. I know the price is more than right and I may snag one before they are all gone, but I bet many people are like me this time of year. Hell... on Black Friday I sometimes feel like crying because I see some deals on things I'd love to have but don't get because I'd rather spend that money on gifts for the kids.
Anyway, excellent job and I do hope you do another production run on these and I'm sure they will all sell out too!
Now if you'd make a Star Wars yoke too the world will be complete!!! ;D
-
I get my handles in the mail Saturday (they look and feel great) and then see the post with the switches, Randy is on a roll. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
I will happily wait for the switches on the back, now just curious if Randy will go as far as adapter sleeve/shafts for Happ Supers or other common sticks.

The Tron backplates came in four different colors? ???

The "Bit field" pattern wasn't an original Tron backplate....it was GORF, IIRC, and it was red. These are just extra options to customize the look of the handle for a generic installation.

Awesome. I'm gonna wait till RandyT makes all the accessories so I can get them all at the same time. Hopefully when he's done it will have a mod to add it to the U360 ;D

I bought the first part, that is the main thing to have now I am going to wait until all this other stuff comes out and then buy the rest.
Randy, what is the status on the Electric Ice Buttons? I sent you two emails now for updates and got to reply? As I know you are busy I would appericate some sort of feedback. I hate to be a pain but you stated you would have them by the 20th so I was just wondering what was going on? I know I can't be the only one here waiting for these...
Thanks.
ps. I did get my Tron shell, very nice.

That's what I would want the most. The need for a Tron stick matches the need for an analog flight stick. With the U360 mapping, seems like it would be the perfect 3rd controller on my mame cab.
-
I guess I'm the only fool who saw this and instead of Tron I thought about building a UV glowing Spy Hunter yoke... lol I guess that's a sign that they're a great deal. I'm not all that into Tron and I still want two ;D

and I thought someone on this forum already modded a u360 board to the bottom of a flight stick (happ 8-way or something like that)

The last I spoke to Randy they were to be instock on the 20th of this month or before, give or take a week.
I sent him two emails last week but have not heard back from him as of today. Last time we spoke he was going to check with his supplier, I am guessing to see what the hold up is.
Hopefully I will hear back from him soon either in this thread or via email. I check the site every day for updates but still nothing as of today.
If you hear anything on them, please post or send me a PM.
Thanks.

Not to derail the thread, but the Electric Ice buttons are on the way. They are taking much longer than expected at the molders this time around, but we should see them right after Thanksgiving.
Thanks for your patience.

Randy,
Thanks for the update, that was all I was looking for is a little bit more to go on. You have to understand that these buttons are the major hold up in me getting my cab., I'm excited! ;D What can I say!?
Sorry if I seem a little pushy, I am just trying to stay on top of things.
Happy Thanksgiving and thanks again for the update, I know we all appericate it.

Is that o-ring for spacing to lift the switch far enough off the plexi to get a connector in there? I'd imagine that if the switch sat flat against the plexi instert there wouldn't be enough space for a crimp on connector. I know it could be directly soldered, but... well, I just don't see that happening.
Any ideas?
-
I'm betting it fills the gap between the switch assembly and the side of the joystick, so the trigger presses the switch
-
well, back to the main topic... will we be able to buy these as add-ons to the existing product on your website, like adding microswitches to your order of pushbuttons, or will they all have to be purchased separately?
-
Just wanted to add I got mine in the mail today, thanks again!!!!
-
I'm betting it fills the gap between the switch assembly and the side of the joystick, so the trigger presses the switch
Either way, can't wait for them to hit the store. I ordered a used CP for my restoration... I didn't get it before because it had the hardware for the joystick, but not the handles... or button... now, I've got the handles... still sans button. Soooo close.
I thought they were supposed to be in the store last weekend, then I thought maybe he meant this weekend... this weekend's coming to a close... but it IS a holiday, so no worries.
I just hope everything's going alright on his end.

Could someone direct me to a link talking about this?

Nah... Someone just asked Randy when he will get more electric ice buttons in stock...

Ahhh darn got my hopes up!!!
-
Got mine, and it's a thing of beauty. Going to make a fine addition to my hideous battleship control panel (old school Slikstik CO2 -yeah, I know, deadbeats...but GREAT product...just, um, HUGE).
I guess the next thing to consider is what the heck to mount this sucker to. Do I pick up a used long-handle Happ, do a restrictor retrofit, or hold out for another solution.
What do ya'll plan? Who's getting super-creative?
-
I've been away from Main for a while. This is really cool. It almost makes me wish I had a use for them. I never played Tron as a kid. Not once. I always wanted to (cos the cab was so effing cool), but it just never happened. I've also never played it in MAME cos I've never had a spinner. So . . . yeah, I've never played Tron, IN MY WHOLE LIFE. So strange.
At any rate, if I wasn't so bloody poor right now, I'd probably order one just for the future--in case someday down the road I'm flush with ill-gotten lawyer money and I decide to restore an old Tron cab for my game room.
C'est la vie. Nice work, though.
-
Ahhh darn got my hopes up!!!
LOL!

Just a heads up.

Doggon it! I just ordered the grip and switch. I saw Randy had only 16 or so grips left in stock so I figured that better jump if I wanted to ensure that I would get one. I looked for the inserts but aparently they hadn't been posted yet. Oh well, thats life. ;)
Gotta go to work now :banghead:
-
OK Randy, order that stuff too....
What is next? ;D
-
Got my switches and insert today. Good stuff. :) Thought the switches were drilled wrong at first, then I pushed harder... nice tight fit. Same with the insert, can't wait to get the whole shebang on the machine, but the rest of the joysticks hardware is still in the shop getting fixed.
-
I'm waiting for a 1, or even 2 bitton insert for the handle, and am going to order it all at once (but if the number available of any of the parts I'm planning on ordering goes below 10 I'll just get what I can and put in a second order later
-
I was thinking along the same lines because I don't (yeah, sad) have enough money for the lighted trans blue push buttons for my Robotron... so, I got what I could get while the gettin' was good. I really wanted to wait for those buttons and (insert wishful thinking) Satan's Hollow joysticks and inserts... but again... got what I could, while I could.
No regrets.
-
So, who's mounted theirs? What did you mount it to? PICS people. PICS!!!
:afro:
-
OK, I'm getting a bit anxious as I have seen your inventory go up and down, it is currently at 8, and I am still wondering what is up with the possibility for single, or dual button graphic backplates and as stated in your description of the handles "mounting hardware to adapt it to standard joysticks". I just want some notification of wether or not these things are in development, or if I should go ahead and order as it is likely the handles will permanently be out of stock before these parts are released.
(oh, I also noticed the electric ice buttons are in stock. YAY!)

What's the chance of some pushbuttons being made out of the same wonderful glowing material the TRON handles are made out of? :notworthy:

I bought them off pony boy years ago.

I completely forgot about that, although the plates have no design on them (as the tron and DoT ones do) and the switches aren't lighted (as the DoT ones were)

I showed these Handles to my friend who has a Tron, and Disc's of Tron. He wanted
them immediately.
I ordered & Installed them just a short while ago. They glow at least 50% brighter
than his originals (if not more)... probably because the UV reactive color fades over time.
Looks amazing.. but I didnt have my camera with me.

Anyone going a non-traditional route and plan on mounting these to something other than a Happ heavy-duty or Tron original? Do we have retrofitting planned, or creative hacks? Yes, I'm looking for ideas ;)
Oh, and that's awesome news about your buddy's installation! Next time you stop by, snap a pic for us!

Just grabbed one of these on a whim with a bunch of other stuff. Maybe I'll fiinally use that happ trigger stick that's been kicking around for years! :applaud:

Tron.

It's only a half-loaded smart arce answer. Tron would be a "duh" and Xenophobe with a "restrictor" would be a great answer with a nod to what the heck you're talking about for the laymen. Alas, this is BYOAC, and people can't resist giving verbal wedgies.
Any way -- I was just checking in to see if anyone was being inventive beyond a Happ heavy duty flight stick or Tron original. I'll consider this a dead thread at this point -- I've got mine, have some plans, and am stoked as hell. Peace.
