Oh they aren't gone quite yet. They only filed for Chapter 11. Of course there's very little chance they can restructure successfully, but stranger things have happened.Yup, as the article says Kmart filed for bankruptcy a number of years ago and they're still around.
Best Buy isn't any better and they're probably next on the chopping block.
Wallymart is right in the middle. Good on price and customer service.
Circuit City was great to buy TVs from. All our US TVs were from Circuit City.
The sales approach was so similar to Ultimate and (if you are old enough to remember) Federated Group.
I hate fighting off sales people, but on the other hand I hate being ignored.

If you're bored and stuck in a Wal-Mart, here's a game to liven it up. It's called,
"Make Eye Contact With a Wal-Mart Employee"
It's amazing to watch so many people shuffle and slouch around while staring at the floor 5 feet in front of them.
Customer service at Wal-mart??? Never heard of it.

When I worked there, I made eye contact with every customer that crossed my path and I said hello.
Of course, I worked overnight and making eye contact was a way of letting shoplifters know I'm watching them. ;D
I was listening to the business news this morning and there was a blurb about Best Buy being in trouble, as well.

Who shoplifts at night? I've acquired quite a few things in my time but never at night... It's just common sense that if you're one of 10 people in the store that there's more eyes available for you.
If I had to work at Walmart, and had to look at the average fat filthy hippo that shops there, I'd be afraid to look up from the floor too.
Yeah, I keep forgetting that you're perfect. I was thinking you were some lonely jackass with a keyboard that spends too much time alt-tabbing between google and posting on forums. Silly me.
Take a look at their stock, it's dropped like a rock.:laugh2: I guess Google is going out of business too:

Where the hell do you live if there are Wal Marts with customer service?? Obviously no where near me...

Let the manager know or go to the customer service area, and ask for the Store Manager. If they do not know there is a problem, how do you expect them to fix it, the next time you visit?I've avoided shopping there for years unless I had no other option. I did go in there about a year ago and ended up going to 4 different stores to find a sale item in stock. The sales lady at the 3rd place found what I wanted at another store. It would have been very easy for her to b.s. me and say they weren't in stock anywhere. Instead, she was extremely helpful and went above my expectations.

Well I worked at Wallymart for a few months as a Customer Service Manager (for some arcade collecting cash) and as I was well versed in customer service and product info, I achieved more sales than anyone else. I trained the floor staff on product info and advised them the best answers, when asking if customers needed any help with their buying decisions. Keep eye contact, smile and if you don't know the answer don't lie. Just go and ask.
Granted I know not all Wall Marts have trained staff, but mine was, as I made sure of it. It never stopped the thousands of customers buying $100s of goods when they just came in for some light bulbs or a carton of milk. BTW is Walmart stock crashing right now?
Wall mart will be around long after Best Buy has gone out of business. Besides Best Buy is not the BEST place to buy anything electrical, as their prices are quite high. Many times I went to Best Buy for some software, only to find Walmart selling the same for $5 less.
:soapbox:
I also feel sorry for those who criticize staff at Wallmart. Yes they might be different, and their personal habits might be different to your own, but most of them are honest and have a good heart. Next time don't post your issues on this board with regard to Wallmart staff. Walk up to them and let them know how you feel.

I think the general overall hatred of Walmart stems from its horrible reputation concerning its treatment of employees and the effect it has in destroying local communities.

Maybe you haven't heard, but there's something called a "market meltdown" going on since September. EVERYBODY'S stocks are down, genius.
I think the most important thing to ask concerning CC's demise is when is the best time to get things at liquidation prices. How long after they raise prices to discount to previous prices will it take to actually see a decent discount. Can we even expect a discount with this FUBAR economy? Why do they only carry pinnacle tv tuners now?
It's funny none of the news stories are mentioning this anymore, but what killed them was Wal-Mart aggressively pursuing the HDTV market.
Circuit City wasn't doing so hot, but then people were willing to pay $500 markups on TVs. This worked great until Wal-Mart noticed and was willing to take a $5 markup. Then Circuit City lost all their insanely price cables money, too.
No kidding, the HDMI same cable that's $5 at Mono Price is $20-30 at Wal-Mart, and $70+ at Circuit City. Best Buy isn't any better and they're probably next on the chopping block.
I worked at bestbuy when I was in college a few years ago, and they always mentioned their biggest fear wasn't cc or any other electronic retailor, but Walmart. Walmart hit the grocery stores first, and now there going to take out other markets as well.
